The two men were locked in a brutal clash. At first, Benjamin held his own, but as exhaustion set in, his advantage slipped away.
Vincent Lombardi took a hard punch to the nose and let out a sharp curse. While he was still reeling, I saw my chance—I yanked out a pocket knife and lunged without thinking.
The blade barely scraped his arm before his hand shot out, crushing my wrist. Pain flared through me, and the knife clattered to the ground.
Vincent, honed by years behind bars, moved like lightning. In seconds, he had me pinned, his weight crushing me into the floor.
"Ambushing me?" He sneered, flipping the knife effortlessly between his fingers. "You think I spent all that time in prison playing cards?"
The blade flashed—once—slicing deep into Benjamin's thigh. Fabric and flesh split open, blood soaking his white shirt in an instant.
But Vincent wasn't finished. Rage drove him as he stabbed again. And again.
Tiffany Valentine and I screamed in unison.
"Shut the hell up!" Vincent snarled, his voice dripping with venom.
Benjamin lay gasping, his body riddled with wounds, too weak to even speak.
I scrambled backward, my voice trembling. "You'll burn for this!"
Vincent wiped the blade clean with eerie calm. "Like I give a damn."
"Every day in that cell was torture," he spat, stalking toward me. "While you were out here playing house, falling in love." His eyes burned with pure hatred. "Tonight, I'm gonna make you watch as I destroy everything you love."
He wasn't just here to hurt me.
That predatory gleam in his eyes—I hadn't imagined it.
I clawed at the floor, trying to drag myself away, but my legs were useless. My pulse roared in my ears as he closed the distance.
Benjamin choked out a broken whisper, his voice raw with pain. "Don't… touch her… you sick bastard!"
Then Vincent was on me, wrenching my arms above my head with terrifying strength. I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe.
Tears blurred my vision as my voice shattered into desperate sobs.
"No… please… no!"
