The entire room froze in stunned silence, every pair of eyes locked on us in utter disbelief.
Lucas stood rigid, his brow furrowed as he opened his mouth to speak—
When suddenly, a strikingly handsome man in sunglasses burst through the entrance.
"Honey, you didn't text me you got off early! I would've picked you up. The roads are a nightmare—I hate you driving alone."
Then, glancing around with a casual smirk: "The manager mentioned your classmates were having a reunion here?"
He slid an arm around my shoulder, removing his shades with effortless charm as he flashed the room a dazzling smile.
"Hey everyone, I'm Adrian—Evelyn's husband. Since you're all her friends, tonight's on me. Order whatever you want—let's make it a night to remember."
The guy who'd been pressuring me to drink earlier went ghost-white. Meanwhile, the women in the room practically short-circuited, squealing:
"Evelyn married a movie star?!"
"Oh my God, this is straight out of a rom-com! Unreal!"
I just smiled, letting the moment speak for itself.
Adrian's gaze flicked to Lucas, sizing him up with a slow, deliberate once-over before delivering a smirk that dripped with condescension.
"So. You're the college ex."
"Thanks, by the way. If you hadn't screwed up, I wouldn't have the perfect wife."
Lucas ignored him, staring straight at me with desperate intensity.
"Evelyn, cut the act. Did you hire some actor to—"
I sighed, lifting Adrian's hand to flash my wedding ring. "Meet my husband. The only one I've ever had."
"I don't lie. And I sure as hell wouldn't waste one on you."
Lucas's composure cracked. "But you swore you'd only ever love me!"
Wary of Adrian's jealousy, I shut it down fast. "Never said that. Not in this lifetime."
The color drained from Lucas's face. He opened his mouth—then snapped it shut, realizing his mistake.
In my past life? Yeah, I'd vowed forever at our wedding. But he'd rewritten our story this time around. He didn't get to cherry-pick which promises still counted.
Lucas wasn't done. "We had something real! How can you just move on like it meant nothing?"
Beside him, Olivia looked like she might pass out.
I gestured tiredly at the slideshow still playing behind them. "Aren't you literally engaged to Olivia right now?"
"Thirty minutes ago, you were on one knee for her. Now you're guilt-tripping me about 'the past'?"
The room's energy shifted instantly. These people had shown up to kiss Lucas's ass—but now that they knew who Adrian was? Suddenly, they couldn't throw Lucas under the bus fast enough.
"Come on, man, let it go. Evelyn's happy!"
"Seriously, who wouldn't choose a hot A-lister with money?"
Olivia finally snapped, grabbing Lucas's arm. "We're leaving. I'm your fiancée now—Evelyn's your past."
But Lucas jerked away violently—sending Olivia stumbling into broken glass. Blood welled from cuts on her palms. Her face burned with humiliation as she shot me a venomous glare.
Adrian's smile turned razor-sharp. "Mr. Summers, don't tell me you're having regrets?"
"My wife's incredible—but she's got standards. I'd check that ego if I were you."
Lucas sputtered, "That's not—I didn't—"
I cut him off coldly. "The past stays in the past."
"I've got everything I want. You got your 'true love.' Let's not pretend otherwise."
Our daughter tugged Adrian's sleeve, bored. "Daddy, can we go home? I want your cooking, not this weird party."
Adrian signaled the butler to take her to the car. Then—still holding my hand—he scanned the room like a king surveying subjects.
"One more thing. I heard someone offered my wife $500 to drink with them?"
Jack started trembling. "I—I was an idiot! Please, Mrs. Smith, forgive me—"
A nod from Adrian, and bodyguards hauled Jack into a back room.
Next, Adrian locked onto Olivia. "And you wanted my wife scrubbing your clinic floors?"
"Funny—I own that entire South District block. Maybe I should reconsider your lease if you've got time to harass tenants about janitorial work."
Olivia forced a laugh, shrinking behind Lucas. "J-just a joke! No offense meant—"
Adrian's gaze swept over every snickering classmate. They suddenly found their shoes fascinating.
Finally, he turned to me with a playful wink—the unspoken How'd I do?
I squeezed his hand, leading him toward the exit—
When Lucas's voice cracked behind us:
"Evelyn! Wait—"
