When Leander received the message, he had been searching for almost three months with no trace. He had even begun to doubt whether Marina was truly dead, whether all his efforts were pointless, whether he would never see her again.
But today, he finally received a message from abroad. Though it was just a blurry photo, Leander recognized his Marina at first glance.
She was alive!
He could see her again!
Leander immediately ordered the butler to investigate, learning the location was in Canada, and that Marina's parents were also there. Why hadn't he thought of this before? Leander felt reborn with joy—Marina had been right there all along, he just hadn't realized it.
He bought a ticket to Canada. Leander couldn't wait another moment.
Sitting on the plane, his heart was incredibly tense. He feared Marina wouldn't forgive him, wouldn't want to see him. But then he thought—he and Marina had loved each other for so many years, how could she really bear to leave? As long as he handled everything properly, once Marina saw his sincerity, she would surely forgive him and come back.
Ten hours later, Leander landed in Canada and went directly to Thomas and Eleanor's house.
Outside the door, he was stopped by bodyguards.
"Thomas, Eleanor, I've come for Marina! I know she's back—I just need her to see me once!"
Leander shouted at the door. Marina didn't come out, but Thomas and Eleanor appeared at the entrance.
"How dare you show your face here!" Eleanor's eyes blazed with anger upon seeing him.
Knowing he was at fault, Leander accepted that the Everlyn family's displeasure was deserved. But he was desperate to see Marina. Even as Eleanor confronted him, he bowed his head in submission: "Eleanor, I know you're dissatisfied with me. I know I was wrong. I've dealt with both Marla's child and Marla herself—they'll never appear before Marina again. As for my parents, the Everhart family owes Marina a debt. As long as she's unwilling, the old estate's occupants won't be able to disturb her."
"I know I was wrong before. I just want one chance. Marina and I loved each other for so long—this time I failed her. Whatever the cost, I'm willing to pay. I just ask to see Marina once, Eleanor."
Leander spoke earnestly. To win back Marina, he would give up everything.
But for her daughter's sake, how could Eleanor easily agree to Leander's request? Moreover, Marina wasn't home today.
Eleanor laughed mockingly: "Marina isn't home. Your words are useless."
With that, Eleanor ordered the door closed.
Leander panicked for a moment. If Marina wasn't here, where could she be?
Looking at the tightly shut door, Leander made his decision: "Eleanor, I'll wait here for Marina to return."
He stood at the door. After ten hours of flying, he was already exhausted to the extreme, sustained only by sheer determination.
He stood from day to night, until late evening when he saw two figures slowly approaching.
He immediately recognized one as Marina. Before Leander could feel joy, he discovered that beside Marina was a strange man—and they were holding hands!
Seeing Marina's expression as she smiled at something the man said, his heart felt like it was being torn apart. He rushed forward.
"Marina! Who is this man!"
