"You want to know who he is?" Marina stared into Leander's eyes.
The man nodded.
The next second, Marina pressed her hand to the back of Gideon's head and kissed him. "Now, he's my boyfriend."
Not only was Leander shocked, his eyes widening as his heart felt torn apart watching his beloved woman kiss another man, but Gideon was equally surprised. However, he quickly recovered, wrapping one arm around Marina's waist and returning an even deeper, more passionate kiss.
He hadn't expected that after months of pursuit, he would get his answer today. His mood was like finding treasure, wanting to devour Marina completely.
Gideon forgot about the person beside them, holding Marina tightly in his arms until she was breathless, only then reluctantly letting go.
Marina caught her breath, her reddened lips still glistening with moisture. "Now you know. Don't come looking for me anymore."
This scene made Leander's heart feel ready to shatter. He shook his head in disbelief: "This isn't real, Marina. This is just an excuse you made up, isn't it? You just want to drive me away. Marina, I won't leave. I'll make you understand that I'm sincere."
"Whatever. Don't block my way." Marina didn't want to waste more meaningless words on him. She took Gideon's hand and walked around the man standing in front of them, returning to the villa.
That door didn't open for him. Leander could only stand outside listening to the joyful voices within.
"Gideon's staying overnight tonight? How wonderful!" Eleanor prepared happily.
"Yes, have the maid prepare the guest room for him. Mom, don't trouble yourself," Marina's voice carried gentle helplessness, nothing like the coldness she'd shown him.
"It might rain tonight. Let me help you bring in the laundry, Eleanor." Gideon immediately became even more enthusiastic than before, making the Everlyn family laugh.
They chatted harmoniously inside the villa while Leander stood alone outside.
Soon enough, heavy rain began falling, thunder crashing down like strikes to his heart.
Leander stood motionless, letting himself be soaked by the downpour. He looked up, gazing obsessively at Marina's silhouette through the curtains, imagining what she was doing.
Before, he would help Marina dry her hair, prepare her nightgown, and then they would inevitably tumble into bed together, his chest full of Marina's love for him.
He stood in the rain all night. The door never opened, and Leander had no intention of leaving. He would stay until Marina was willing to see him.
