After delivering those cold words, Elliot turned and left the basement.
Marina listened to his footsteps fade away before slowly using the wall to help herself stand.
Over the next three days, she locked herself in her room, barely leaving.
She only took a few bites of the meals the servants brought; no matter how beautiful the sunshine outside, she never stepped foot out of her room.
She couldn't give Phoebe any more opportunities to frame her.
Fortunately, Elliot kept his word—he spent all three days with Phoebe and didn't even come home.
Through gossip news, Marina frequently saw them together.
Phoebe held Elliot's arm, smiling radiantly, while Elliot looked down at her with eyes so tender they could melt.
The day before the wedding, she sat at her desk, carefully writing down all of Elliot's preferences and dislikes:
"Hates cilantro, doesn't eat spicy food; only drinks black coffee, no sugar; shirts must be perfectly pressed; can't sleep with any light..."
After finishing, she folded the note and called over a servant, Peach.
"This is for you," she said softly. "Give it back to me after the wedding is over."
Peach looked confused. "Ma'am, what is this..."
"In case I forget," Marina smiled slightly. "You know, my memory hasn't been good lately."
Though Peach found it strange, she obediently took the note. "Don't worry, ma'am. I'll keep it safe."
After Peach left, Marina pulled out a suitcase she'd already packed from deep in the closet.
She took one last look around the room she'd lived in for three years, her gaze lingering on the wedding photo on the wall.
In the photo, Elliot looked handsome as a god in his sharp suit, while she wore a priceless wedding dress, smiling gracefully.
She gently removed the frame, placed it face-down on the table, then left without looking back.
In the airport terminal, Caroline Everlyn had been waiting for some time.
She handed Marina a bank card and plane ticket. "Thirty million, not a penny less. From now on, you have nothing to do with the Everlyn family."
Marina took the card, her fingertips trembling slightly.
She looked up at her mother, noticing she wouldn't even spare her an extra glance.
"Thank you," she said quietly.
Caroline's tone was ice cold. "You did well these three years. You didn't cause any problems with the business partnership."
She paused. "Go. Go live the life you want."
Marina nodded and turned toward the security checkpoint.
At the corner, she looked back one last time. Caroline had already left, her retreating figure so resolute it was as if she'd never had this daughter at all.
But Marina wasn't sad. She gripped the ticket tightly, her eyes slightly misty.
This time, she could finally live for herself.
She walked toward the boarding gate without looking back, her figure resolute.
Meanwhile, at the Sinclair estate,
A woman who looked ninety percent identical to her put on the wedding dress, quietly waiting for tomorrow's ceremony.
Isabelle Everlyn came back!
