After receiving the news, Elliot's face darkened instantly, and he immediately rushed to the hospital with his assistant.
In the corridor, his footsteps were urgent and heavy, his mind constantly replaying Isabelle's recent abnormal behavior—her gaze, her attitude, even her coldness and hostility toward him and Phoebe.
Two hospital rooms stood side by side. Elliot stood between them, momentarily unsure which door to open first.
Just as he hesitated, a nurse approached him, holding a document envelope.
"Mr. Sinclair, this fell out of Miss Evans' belongings. Please confirm it."
Elliot took the envelope and casually opened it, his pupils suddenly contracting.
Inside were surveillance screenshots and transaction records, clearly showing a woman identical to Isabelle leaving the Sinclair estate the night before the wedding.
What shocked him even more was that three years ago, the Everlyn family had made a secret transaction with "Isabelle," marked as "marriage substitution compensation."
"Fake...?" His voice was hoarse, his fingers unconsciously tightening, crumpling the envelope in his palm.
All the inconsistencies suddenly connected in this moment.
She wasn't Isabelle at all!
Elliot's head snapped up, fury blazing in his eyes, and he turned to confront the "Isabelle" in the hospital room.
However, he had barely taken a step when he saw Phoebe standing at the corridor corner, staring at the envelope in his hands with a pale face.
"Elliot..." She hurried forward, her voice deliberately trembling, "I knew something was wrong with her all along! She's not Isabelle at all—she's an impostor!"
Elliot looked at her coldly, not missing the flash of panic in her eyes.
He suppressed his doubts and asked in a deep voice: "Why were you investigating these things?"
Phoebe stiffened, then forced a pale smile: "I... I was just worried you were being deceived..."
Elliot ignored her and went straight to push open Isabelle's hospital room door, only to find it empty.
A nurse told him that the Everlyn family had taken "the madam" away not long ago.
"The Everlyns?" Elliot's expression darkened, and he immediately ordered his assistant, "Verify the authenticity of these documents, and prepare the car. I'm going to the Everlyn house!"
Seeing this, Phoebe hurriedly stepped forward to stop him, her voice urgent: "Elliot, if she ran away, it proves she's guilty! She impersonated Isabelle, probably for the Sinclair fortune. Why chase after her?"
Elliot paused and turned to look at her: "I just want to know where the real Isabelle is."
Phoebe's body stiffened, her smile barely holding: "Elliot, you... do you have feelings for her?"
Elliot didn't answer, just gave her a deep look before striding away.
Phoebe stood there, her fingers gripping her clothes tightly, feeling both regretful and uneasy—she had thought exposing "Isabelle's" identity would secure Elliot for herself, but she hadn't expected things to develop this way.
Looking at Phoebe beside him, Elliot's doubts grew stronger.
Phoebe's behavior was also abnormal.
After thinking for a moment, he sent a message to his assistant:
【Also investigate Phoebe Evans. Find out why she was really looking into these things.】
