My heart soared with sick satisfaction.
You disgusting pair—just wait until you're lying in a hospital bed, regretting every second of this for the rest of your miserable lives!
Lily Harrison's shrill screams only made my triumph sweeter. I rushed back, threw open the bedroom door, and barked, "What the hell is wrong with you two?"
Then I froze.
Instead of Mason Reynolds and Lily tangled together like I'd imagined, they were sitting apart—one on the bed, the other by the nightstand.
"Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Mason burst into laughter, shaking his head at me like I was some pathetic joke. "Diana Collins, I knew you'd try to pull something. So I set you up. How's that working out for you now, huh?"
Lily shot to her feet, her face twisted with rage. "I respected you, Professor's wife! And this is how you repay me? Biting the hand that feeds you?"
Her hypocrisy lit a fire in my chest. "Respected me? By crawling into my house and cozying up to my husband? That's your idea of respect?"
"You lying bitch!"
Lily snatched her slipper and lunged, raining blows down on me. "I've never met anyone as vile and shameless as you! I'll beat the life out of you, you worthless—"
I fought back like a wild animal.
If she thought she could lay hands on me in my own home, then backing down wasn't an option. Letting her win meant letting her destroy me completely.
"Enough!" Mason roared, suddenly grabbing me and slamming me to the floor. His fists and kicks came hard and fast—the spineless coward from before was gone, replaced by a vicious brute.
Meanwhile, Lily whipped me with a clothes hanger—striking my face, my legs, my back.
Outnumbered, I couldn't hold out for long. Soon, all I could do was curl into a ball, arms shielding my head as their assault continued.
Half an hour later, exhausted, they finally left.
My vision swam. My face throbbed. Every inch of my body screamed in agony. Rage and pain twisted the world around me until I could barely stay conscious.
It took me an hour just to crawl to my feet. Leaning against the wall, I staggered out like a ghost.
I never understood those suicide reports before.
Why would anyone choose death when life is good?
Now, I got it.
Lying on the narrow bed in my single dorm, death didn't seem so terrifying.
Mason's betrayal. Lily's cruelty. My mother's blind indulgence. The physical agony. The emotional wreckage. It all pushed me to the edge.
But I refused to jump.
This was my home. My life. My future. And I'd be damned if I let them steal it all and live happily ever after while I rotted in the ground.
No.
That wasn't how Diana Collins played this game.
Even if I died, I'd drag them down to hell with me first.
Tiffany Grant's and my plan would go on.
