The light of the lamp was too much, the smell of something iron was too much, and the noises from nowhere were too much for Jungkook as soon as he opened his eyes.
He felt like his body systems were working at their maximum, too sensitive for him. Even his eyesight was a hundred times better than before. He let his new powerful eyes roam the place where he was currently staying.
The bedroom was too dark with all curtains closed, the only source of light was the lamp which he was grateful for. He didn't know if it was day or night, How long did he sleep? Did his friends get out of this place? Did he turn into a vampire?
All the thoughts entered his brain, almost making him lightheaded and the changes in his body didn't help.
''Don't think too much. You might get a headache.''
Jungkook let out a surprised squeak at the deep voice, he didn't even know there was another person in the room. He hurriedly tried to sit up on the bed, his back against the headboard.
V who was reading a book on the chair in the corner of the room, placed the book down on the table and walked towards the bed. He stopped a step away, standing straight with his hands behind his back as if he was afraid that his presence might overwhelm the younger one.
Jungkook peered at the vampire through his long eyelashes, cautious of what'd happen next. But why did that vampire look like smiling at him? Did his vision make him see things?
V cleared his throat, ''So, how do you feel? Too sensitive?''
Jungkook nodded shyly from the stare V was giving him, it was so weird you know. He was in the same room with the creature whose existence he had learned about just recently. And laying on a bed which was probably his too.
''Um, where are my friends? Did they leave?,'' Jungkook gathered courage and asked timidly because he was somehow guilty, they were trying to deceive vampires.
''They are dead.''
Jungkook's heart dropped, so his sacrifice didn't mean anything. He couldn't save his friends, and he will die soon too.
''I'm sorry.''
V furrowed his eyebrows and scolded the boy, ''Why are you apologizing? You did nothing wrong. They suffered the consequences of their actions. You shouldn't apologize for something which is not your fault,'' making the latter flinch.
''Sorry,'' V apologized but his stern face didn't soften, ''I hope you don't blame yourself on this.''
Jungkook gulped nervously and nodded his head quickly, the vampire looked already intimidating and he didn't want to provoke more.
''S-so I am a vampire now? Do I have to live here until I die? Can't I go back to my place?''
The vampire didn't look happy at his words but at least his frown loosened, ''Not completely yet. And yes, you will live here with me, not until you die, but forever.''
Jungkook tilted his head confusedly, trying to digest the words which he found too difficult.
V chuckled as if he could understand the younger's struggle, ''We have all time in the world, let's talk about this later. Now, shall we turn you completely into a vampire?''
''Yes, sir''
''Taehyung''
''Huh?''
''My name. Or just call me hyung, no sir.''
''Okay, h-hyung.''
''Good. Do you perhaps feel hungry?''
Just now the food was mentioned, and Jungkook felt hungry. He didn't notice until now, his other senses were too strong to mask up his hunger.
''Yes. I'm hungry.''
''You are turning smoothly then, get up. Let's get you some food.''
Jungkook got up from the bed, surprised at himself feeling his body too obedient in a weird way. And yes, he was craving something too. His eyes reached the pancake and strawberries on the table.
Taehyung noticed it and laughed fondly, ''Not that. Wait here,'' he signaled to sit on the chair and stretched his hand to grab a glass out of a cabinet.
Everything looked majestic in the room, is he a King or something like that?, Jungkook decided to ask later. From this angle, Jungkook couldn't see if there was any food in the cabinet, but somehow he doubted it.
"As you age, you will be able to stomach human food as you used to. But now, this is the only food for you."
Jungkook looked at the glass offered to him as Taehyung sat beside him. Something red and thick, too thick to be juice, too vibrantly red to be wine.
It had an earthy, iron scent that made Jungkook want to throw up. Taehyung's eyebrows creased together as he placed the glass on the table.
"Oh, no, thank you," Jungkook uttered quietly, pushing the glass away. His horror at the thought of drinking blood and his body's resistance to moving away from Taehyung engaged in a strange tug-of-war as he attempted to move himself and his chair further away.
"Can I have just water?"
"Don't be difficult," Taehyung nagged, picking up the glass only to shove it back into Jungkook's hand, his hand on top of his. Probably to keep him from putting it back down; Jungkook was surprised to feel something fitting into place in his chest, whole and complete, and it almost caused him to drop the glass.
"As your mate, it is both my responsibility and desire to keep you alive. So drink, before I have to force you to."
Jungkook couldn't even notice the word 'mate', too busy glaring at the glass, wrinkling his nose. Jungkook opened his mouth instinctively to prevent blood from spilling down his chin as Taehyung forcedly lifted the glass to his lips and tilted.
When Jungkook tasted the blood, he swallowed forcefully and rapidly, his stomach churning as he realized the blood was cold. With blood trickling from the glass rim, he forced the glass into Taehyung's hand with more force than he intended.
As Taehyung licked the scarlet off of his fingers and set it down, Jungkook gazed in awe.
Taehyung's eyes flickered to him as something white-hot erupted in Jungkook's stomach, erupting in jealousy at the sight.
Jungkook tried very hard not to think about his blood painting Taehyung's mouth crimson or the persistent hunger gnawing at his insides, despite the disgusting taste.
"This tastes awful," Jungkook blurted out instead, scrambling for strawberries and stuffing an entire one into his lips, preferring the flavor of the fruit to sickening iron.
It's difficult to bite into food with his fangs now that they've fallen out, probably due to blood, but he did his best, glancing away from Taehyung. "Has the blood expired?"
"I would not give you anything I would not drink myself, so, no," Taehyung said, his face expressionless. "Type O is my favorite, though I have others."
Jungkook made a shaky motion with his head. "It has to be," he pleaded weakly. All he could hear was their breathing and his heart pounding in his ears, the room was unusually silent, or perhaps it was because of his new hearing ability.
"Seriously, I...really don't like it." And, then, because he felt bad, "sorry."
As Taehyung got out of the chair, a look of confusion crossed his face.
Taehyung picked up the glass and took a sip, "Maybe you would like type AB better," he said.
When Taehyung attempted to extend the glass once again, Jungkook shook his head in confusion, his stomach churning with a strange feeling of jealousy.
Jealous to what? Taehyung drinking blood which was not his?
What the fuck. It didn't make sense.
After swallowing the remaining blood, Taehyung placed the glass in the washbasin. Watching Taehyung use his teeth to rip open a fresh blood bag and pour it into a new glass, Jungkook subconsciously stood up to follow.
When Taehyung licked over his lip and his tongue picked up a drop of red, Jungkook's jaw was squeezed shut out of annoyance, to what? The reason he couldn't know.
Jungkook refused to take the glass when Taehyung held it out, eyeing the liquid with disgust.
Taehyung stepped forward, and Jungkook backed up instinctively, heat burning across his cheeks at the purse of Taehyung's mouth.
Still, he kept his hands at his sides, trying not to cave out of pure politeness when Taehyung tried to hand the glass to him.
"Little one, I told you not to be difficult," With a low voice of warning, Taehyung stepped forward till Jungkook's hip hit the counter.
"I do like your little spark, but I don't want you to starve because of your stubbornness"
"It's gross," Jungkook murmured, his knees getting a little shakier as he spoke. When Taehyung kept pushing him against the counter and placed warm fingertips on his chin, he felt stuck and his stomach lurched. He made an effort not to look at Taehyung's throat, which had a long line that was growing more alluring.
Taehyung mumbled, tilting the glass, "It shouldn't be gross." When Taehyung tapped the glass rim on Jungkook's bottom lip, he kept his lips closed and wouldn't open his mouth.
"I've heard that fledglings, especially those who haven't eaten since turning, don't start to develop blood type preferences until they're mature. You can't possibly be that picky."
Offended, Jungkook opened his mouth to respond with a snarky retort when Taehyung smirked and tipped the glass so the liquid slid over his tongue.
As Taehyung observed his mate's response and set the glass on the counter next to them, Jungkook sputtered and swallowed fast.
"Better, but still bad," Jungkook groaned, swallowing forcefully to get the taste out of his mouth. The hand that dangled from his chin and rested on his shoulder was close to him, and he made an effort to appear unaffected by it.
When Taehyung opened a button on his silk shirt, Jungkook ignored the sudden thirst that made his tongue heavy and his throat dry.
"I know you stated everything was fresh, but I believe they are no longer good. Why can't I just eat the food?"
It was denied by Taehyung, who shook his head. "I did not think it would come to this," he murmured, and Jungkook stared, gulping quietly, as Taehyung undid a further button from his shirt.
"But it seems like we have to. Even though you behave better than other fledglings I have observed, it would be negligent of me to send you out before quenching your thirst."
Given how quickly Taehyung jumped to explain, confusion must be evident on Jungkook's face. He rubbed a calming circle into Jungkook's shoulder and said lowly.
"You will need blood, little one. If you don't like either of those, it might just be that you can't take human blood, but I'd rather not send you out without feeding you. You can therefore temporarily feed on me."
Jungkook's innermost need was burning with something he couldn't identify, and he was wondering whether Taehyung was joking or not.
Dark and heavy with crimson eyes, Taehyung's intense gaze fixed on Jungkook as he attentively examined him.
The longing that tried to push himself into Taehyung's arms caused him to wriggle nervously in place.
Taehyung complained, laying a warm palm lightly and tenderly on the back of Jungkook's neck, "It wasn't a joke."
Again, how did he know? Could he read minds? Jungkook stood very still to avoid melting away to the touch.
"I'm sorry if this makes you uncomfortable, but I might have to draw you away. Please don't sink your fangs in my skin for too long; venom has...side effects, got it?"
Before Jungkook had a chance to pause or consider why Taehyung would need to control him, the scent of Taehyung's cologne drew him in. Taehyung tenderly cradled him as his hand slid from his shoulder to his waist. Hand almost completely encircled Jungkook's waist and was soft enough to resemble a lover's touch.
Jungkook felt dizzy and shy, but not enough to draw away, as he realized Taehyung's capacity to wrap his waist with a hand. He also became aware that breathing into Taehyung's neck might be viewed as a little odd.
Did every vampire experience this when they were close to one another? Or is it just him?
