Maybe Leo Roscente was pleased with my cooperation, or maybe I was still too valuable to them.
Sean Winston set me up in a double room and even gave me time to rest before my "training session" with Monica Lowell.
When Monica walked in, I was scanning the room for any way out.
"Save your energy," she said, taking a slow drag from her cigarette. "Nobody walks out of here alive."
I spun around and lunged at her, blind with rage. She didn’t even flinch—just exhaled smoke and said, "Think about your husband and kid."
If Sean’s words had only planted doubt in my mind, Monica’s confirmed it. My blood ran cold. "You—you know where my family is!"
She stared past me, her expression distant, almost nostalgic. "They’ve got a real talent for exploiting weakness."
"This is all your fault!" I screamed, my voice raw. "If it weren’t for you, I’d be picking up my daughter right now! Waiting for my husband to come home like a normal family!" I charged at her again, but before I could reach her, Monica flicked out a stun gun.
The jolt hit me like a lightning strike, sending me crashing to the floor. As I convulsed, she leaned down and whispered, "You really think I ruined you? Wasn’t it you who asked what I was up to? Who begged me for this 'opportunity'? Face it—this is on you."
Tears burned down my cheeks. "It is my fault!" I sobbed, slapping my own face over and over. If I hadn’t been so greedy, so desperate for extra cash, my family wouldn’t be in danger now…
Monica dropped her cigarette and crushed it under her boot. "Stay alive. The dead don’t get second chances."
"Second chances…" I whispered.
Did I even deserve one?
