Inside the room, Tyler's breathing got heavier.
He pinned me against the door but held back from doing anything.
Made sense.
Eighteen years old, no experience. He was all worked up but didn't dare make a real move.
I said, "Shower first? You or me?"
Tyler snapped back to reality, giving me a suspicious look. He probably thought it was weird how comfortable I seemed with all this.
"You go first," I said.
Tyler shot me a contemptuous glance and tossed his backpack into my arms.
"I'll be quick."
"No rush," I replied.
The second the bathroom door closed, I opened Tyler's backpack and found his camera, then picked up the hotel phone and dialed the number for the hair salon downstairs.
The call connected quickly. After giving the room number, I hung up and pulled out his wallet—a thick stack of cash.
Tyler was a rich kid.
His dad owned the biggest shopping center in our county.
His dad spoiled him rotten and the way he showed that love was with money.
Tyler had LOTS of money.
But I only took half. The other half was for paying the woman.
Soon, the doorbell rang.
Tyler had finished his shower too.
He walked out of the bathroom, confused. "Why are the lights off?"
No answer.
A bedside lamp cast dim light over a lumpy shape under the covers. Tyler's breathing got heavier, his voice trembling.
He called out, "Jess?"
He walked over and bent down, his bathrobe tied around his waist, exposing his lean teenage back.
I licked my teeth with interest.
In the darkness, only his heavy breathing could be heard. Then he pulled back the covers.
Soft arms wrapped around his neck.
Tyler tumbled onto the bed, two bodies tangled together.
Then I turned on the lights.
Click.
I snapped the photo.
Tyler's eyes went wide. He looked completely stunned.
The woman from the salon cursed at me. "What the hell? This isn't what we agreed on."
I gestured for her to wait, then waved the camera at Tyler with a smile.
Tyler snapped back to reality, furious. "JESS!"
"One photo, one thousand dollars." I tossed his wallet over. "I already took my share. Left you some to pay this lady."
Then I told the woman, "Get your money from him."
With that, I picked up my backpack and walked out without hesitation.
Tyler jumped off the bed, trying to chase after me.
"STOP!" he roared. "Jess! You fucking played me!"
"You didn't pay yet! Don't even think about leaving!"
"Let me go!"
"Pay up first! Or you're not going ANYWHERE!"
I slammed the door shut.
Serves him right.
Life at eighteen had been brutal.
Because I was too young—a teenage girl had no other way to survive. My body was my only asset.
In the previous life, that deal with Tyler bought me a week's worth of meals.
But it also cost me my name.
My half-naked body was permanently stored in the guys' phones.
Every day, I'd find notes in my desk with disgusting questions about my prices.
[Twenty bucks not enough? How about thirty?]
[Can I just look without touching?]
Meanwhile, the girls kept their distance, deliberately covering their noses when they passed by me, exchanging knowing looks and smirks.
My life went from hell to the eighteenth level of hell.
Nobody hit me. Nobody called me names to my face.
But I was whipped bloody by their silence.
So I wouldn't make the same mistake twice.
At twenty-eight, I knew how to play these games.
Tyler deserved what he got.
I hummed cheerfully as I walked home.
A thousand bucks would get me through the rest of the semester.
Then graduation, and I'd get the hell out of this place.
