Jasmine hovered nearby, feeding the fire with her words. "Jesus, Evelyn, what's your damage? Spill it - who screwed you over this time?"
Her nosy prodding sent my temper skyrocketing. I spun on her, my voice razor-sharp. "Back off, Jasmine! This is between Liam and me. Keep your nose out of it!"
Zachary flopped onto the couch like we were his personal reality show, a lazy smirk playing on his lips. I jabbed a finger at him. "You're the one who told me about Liam and Jasmine! Say something, you coward!"
Jasmine's eyes raked over Zachary's rumpled clothes and something snapped. She lunged at me like a feral cat, yanking my hair hard enough to make my eyes water before cracking her palm across my cheek. "You little slut! Hands off my man!"
The world froze. My scalp burned, my face throbbed, but worse was the complete disconnect in my brain. She'd been the one sneaking around with Liam - so why was I the one getting slapped around?
I thrashed against her grip, but she had the strength of a pissed-off cheerleader. Liam just stood there watching us like we were some mildly interesting TV drama, his expression colder than a midnight frost.
I locked eyes with him, betrayal acid in my throat. "Really, Liam? You're just gonna stand there while she assaults me?"
He blinked like I'd shaken him from a daydream, his brow knitting as he took in our tangled limbs, but his feet stayed planted. Meanwhile, Zachary was practically vibrating with amusement from his front-row seat.
Seeing Liam's detached stare, the puzzle pieces finally clicked. The betrayal wasn't new - he'd been playing me this whole time while cozying up to Jasmine. I'd blown up my entire life to be with him, and in thirty damn days, he'd become a stranger.
Then Zachary's voice cut through like a gunshot. "Knock it off!"
He shoved Jasmine aside with casual strength. "What's with the theatrics? We're all here for the same thing, right? When I caught these two going at it last week, I didn't throw a tantrum." He hauled me up and deposited me on the couch. "We all get our turn."
My head spun. "What the hell does that mean?"
"Let's stop pretending," Zachary drawled, his gaze bouncing between me and Jasmine like we were menu options. "We all heard each other through the walls at night. Liam and I aren't jealous guys. Why play hard to get now?"
He slung an arm around Liam's shoulders with a frat-boy grin. "What's mine is yours, am I right bro?"
Liam hesitated - then gave the smallest nod.
That tiny movement shattered me. The man I'd loved wouldn't just agree to this... this depraved arrangement.
Jasmine flipped her hair and crossed her legs beside me, all smug satisfaction. "Works for me. If nobody's keeping score, why should I care? Variety's the spice of life, right?"
"You're all sick!" Their synchronized, predatory expressions turned my stomach to ice.
Then Jasmine had the audacity to purr, "Since we're all here anyway," she gave me a once-over that made my skin crawl, "and Evelyn's already dressed for the occasion, why postpone the fun?"
