I'm Nightfall's youngest, deadliest assassin.
Every powerful man in the city want to have a taste and to cage this killer beauty.
Until Alexander Blackwood, sole heir to the Blackwood Group showed up.
To be with me, he threw away his pride and didn't care about any of his family's rules.
"Do whatever you want. I'm here—I've got your back forever."
He kept that promise.
On missions, he was my backup. At home, I was his spoiled princess.
For five years, he worshipped the ground I walked on.
The week I decided to quit and marry him, enemies kidnapped my parents.
For the first time, me—who never flinched at S-rank death missions—panicked for the first time.
I begged him for help.
But this time, he looked me in the eye and said no.
"Kidnapping your parents is Vivian's first assignment. If she fails, the poor girl won't sleep tonight."
I couldn't fucking believe what just came out of Alexander's mouth.
"Alexander, these are my biological parents we're talking about! How can you not get what this means?!"
Vivian—this bitch Alexander was suddenly so worried about—was a hired killer working for our enemies.
Her grabbing my birth parents? It's a trap, plain and simple. She wants to drag me out so she can put a bullet in my head.
Alexander kept using that soft, caring voice, but his words were ripping my heart apart.
"Look, Viv's job was just grabbing your parents. She did that. You stay away, you stay alive. End of story."
"Come on, you've been doing this shit for years—you know how brutal it is for girls in this business. This is Vivian's first real job with the organization. She screws this up, and the poor girl won't sleep tonight.."
He reached out to touch my head like he always did. But this time I stepped back and fought back the sting in my nose.
I stared at those eyes I'd been crazy about for five years. They felt cold. Like looking at a stranger.
Vivian showed up at the rival organization six months ago. Before her, I was the highest-paid female merc in the underground.
But that gorgeous face of hers had everyone eating out of her hand from day one.
Alexander used to shit on her all the time back then.
"She's just a pretty face. Not worth a single hair on Casey's head."
Three months after he said that, guess who became Alexander's personal bodyguard? Vivian.
His excuse when I confronted him:
"You know I need someone who can handle business dinners and look good while watching my back. Vivian sucks as a merc, but for bodyguard work, she's perfect."
"Casey, you trust me, right?"
Those five years with Alexander Blackwood—he made me feel like I was everything to him. Of course I trusted him with stupid shit like this.
But now? Just so Vivian can sleep better after her first successful mission, he's totally fine with my birth parents dying.
I was shaking all over, trying to keep it together. My voice came out all choked up.
"What if I said I'm going anyway?"
Alexander's face went dark. His voice turned ice cold.
"Casey, don't push me."
It felt like someone just punched a huge hole right through my chest. The pain hit so hard I could barely breathe.
Tears started pouring down my face.
Seeing me cry, Alexander's expression softened for just a second.
"You've got me, okay? Whatever happens, I'll be right here with you. This is such a small thing—do you really wanna fight me over it?"
Hearing that, I couldn't hold back anymore and roared out.
"Alexander! These are my biological parents! If I don't go, they're gonna DIE! Their lives—that's just a 'small thing' to you?"
"And if I do go, I'm trading my life for theirs! My life—that's just a 'small thing' too?"
This was the first time I'd ever blown up at Alexander like this.
He looked stunned for a moment, then said quietly:
"Casey, don't put me in this position."
I actually laughed. But tears were still streaming down my face.
I wiped my eyes hard and headed for the door.
Right as I grabbed the handle, Alexander's voice cut through the air behind me, cold as ice.
"Casey, I gave you a chance."
