The simpleton wrapped his arms around me, his touch scorching against my skin. "Emily... are you cold? Let me warm you up."
His embrace was like wildfire, consuming every last shred of my restraint.
Without hesitation, he pressed against me from behind, his body searing through the thin fabric between us, melting away any lingering resistance.
"Y-you... do you even know how to—" My voice cracked, the words dissolving into the charged air between us.
I wasn't even sure what I was asking.
But the man behind me moved with an unsettling confidence, as if he'd mapped every inch of me long before tonight.
I closed my eyes and surrendered, letting the heat between us devour me whole.
Outside, the rain whispered against the window all night, while inside, the storm raged on—untamed, relentless.
A night of reckless abandon.
When I woke, sunlight streamed through the curtains. 1 PM.
I lay there, muscles aching, staring blankly at the ceiling.
The room was empty. Silent. No trace of him remained.
But the phantom warmth still coiled in my bones, a merciless reminder of what we'd done.
Panic clawed at my throat. I grabbed my phone, dialing my husband with trembling fingers. The ringing drilled into my skull, each tone tightening the vise around my chest.
One second. Two. Thirty.
Nothing.
Slowly, my pulse steadied. My gaze drifted to the wedding photo on the nightstand—smiling faces frozen in time.
The next day, as I stepped out, Lucas was still there, leaning against the doorframe like a shadow.
He looked different—yet exactly the same. I froze, words dying on my lips.
Before he could speak, tires crunched over gravel. A car pulled up.
My husband was home.
My stomach lurched. How the hell would I explain this?
But my husband didn't even blink. Instead, he grinned. "Lucas! What are you doing out here? Come inside—I'll get you something to drink."
I shot him a wary glance, but he breezed past me, oblivious. He handed me a neatly wrapped box—another obligatory souvenir—then pulled me into a crushing hug. "Sorry, sweetheart. Work's been hell. I meant to call."
Over his shoulder, Lucas's dark eyes locked onto mine. Unreadable. Dangerous.
I forced a laugh, returning my husband's embrace. "You're the CEO. You don't owe me explanations. You must be exhausted—go rest."
He kissed me.
"You're the best."
"Lucas, come in. Let Aunt Emily fix you something to eat."
My husband always insisted on the title—Aunt Emily—as if it could rebuild the boundaries we'd obliterated. But Lucas never used it.
At dinner, my husband drank until he slumped over the table, dead weight. No way I could move him alone.
In the end, I had to guide Lucas, watching as he hauled my husband to bed with unsettling ease.
When we stepped out of the bedroom, the air between us crackled. No words. No hesitation.
We crashed together like a force of nature.
