Athena's cat was in our yard again, and I don't think she realizes that when she leaves he finds a way out of her house and into our yard.
"Come here Arlo." I said picking up the orange cat and walking next door
I knocked on the door but she didn't answer.
"Athena! Arlo got out." I yelled
I looked around her yard seeing that her car was gone.
"I guess you're staying with me." I mumbled
I never had pets growing up so this will be the first.
"I don't have any food for you." I said to Arlo
"Are you talking to the damn cat?" Johnnie asked confused
"Yes I am."
"Isn't that Athena's cat? Jake, don't tell me you went into her house and took her damn cat." He said rubbing his face "Now's she going to call the fucking cops and-"
"Shut the fuck up, he escaped and came into our yard."
"Oh thank god."
I set Arlo down letting him run off.
"Call Athena and tell her about Arlo." Johnnie said
"I can't."
"Jake, it's not that hard."
"I don't have her number."
Johnnies raised his eyebrows "You're telling me, that you are partially obsessed with this girl and you don't have her number?"
I shook my head again "Sounds about right."
"And you say that you're good with girls."
"What do cats eat?" I mumbled digging in the cupboards
"Cat food, Jake and we don't have any." Johnnie said "Where did the damn cat go anyway?"
Johnnie left looking for Arlo while I searched the kitchen for food to feed him. I found a package of tuna, shrugging my shoulders I threw it into a plastic bowl before setting it in the ground.
"Johnnie grab Arlo!" I yelled
Johnnie came back with the orange cat clawing at him.
"Arlo doesn't like you." I teased
"Fucking cat."
"Be nice to Athenas cat." I said pushing the bowl closer to Arlo
"Jake he's not going to each that shit."
I watched as Arlo slowly started to eat the food and I looked up at Johnnie smiling.
"And you were saying?"
