I could see the subtle smile on his face; he was trying not to show it, but it came up. I began to wonder what kind of trauma he was dealing with that made him stay locked up, not wanting to meet with the outside world. We were both locked in prisons of our own, but he locked himself in and threw the key outside. I was locked from the outside. Now that I have somehow found a way out, I am going to make sure I find the key and let him out.
"Are you even listening to me?" his voice was loud enough to draw me out from whatever thought had filled my mind. I look up and blink rapidly before I shake my head. He does not react the way I would have thought he should. "I want you to have your security team with you always," he says.
"Always? Why would I?" I ask, it was freedom, but really not the kind I wanted. I was not complaining because this was better than nothing, but still, I wanted to see if there was a way I could break free from that as well.
"You are my wife, and some people know that; many more will come to know in the following days. I have a lot who are angry at me," he stops himself as if he is giving away too much already. I raise my eyebrow at him. I know I can't demand anything from him, but this concerns me; I want to believe that it concerns me.
"Are you not going to tell me?" I ask as I drop my hand on my waist and press my lip into a thin line. "This concerns me, doesn't it?" I ask and he nods with an exasperated sigh.
"You are right, this might concern you in some ways, but the bottom line is just that you have to be careful," he wants to evade the discussion. "People are angry at me for many reasons, and some may want to take it out on you, so I need you to be safe."
"Why? Because I am your path to revenge?" I ask, and he frowns.
"Don't get me wrong, I can penetrate without you," he says, and I do not like the feel at all. "To be honest, I did not think of using you as a means until your father came to me with an offer." I am shocked at what I am hearing.
Enoch was the one who even initiated all of this first? "I have enough intel and people owe him to do what I need to do," he adds, and I know I have no ego left, but it seems too bruised for me to go on.
"When, then, don't you just use them?" I ask in a sulky tone as I look away.
"I am not using you," he says as if he were giving off some kind of discovery. "I want you to find peace through this, too."
I doubt if I would be at peace after doing this, but I know I'd feel some kind of relief if I could just see Enoch get a taste of what he deserves. Even a tiny bitter taste was enough for me. "You are telling yourself that, and I do not mind. I do not mind that you are using me. If you think that is right, then no problem at all." I back out, ready to leave the room, and he stares at me as I walk with my back towards the door.
"Careful," his voice comes out too late as I feel a sharp, piercing stab to my back. He rushes to me as I try to figure out what has just happened.
I see him rush towards me from the table and hold onto me. I would have flinched, but his reaction was making me question everything, and suddenly I felt my back ache. Why was it aching? Did I just get an injury?
"What is happening?" I manage to let my voice out as I stare at his perfectly sculpted face. "Am I dying?" I know I am being dramatic, but I sincerely can't help myself at all.
"You aren't dying; you only hit that lamo." I look around me to try and see the lamp, but the only thing I see is pieces of shattered glass around me.
"I will take you to your room," he says, and before I can process what he means, my legs are hanging in midair, and he is walking out. I open my mouth to protest, but no words come out. I am stunned at what is happening, and I am really confused about the proper way to react now. He finally makes his way to my room and drops me on the bed. "Wait here," he says as he walks out of the room at once.
I look around and get up from the bed, and walk to the mirror. I try to see what the lamo had done to my body, but from where I am standing, there is nothing.
"The doctor is on her way..." he trailed off as he saw I was no longer where he had dropped me. "Why did you get up? What if you injure yourself more?"
"Did you just call a doctor?" I ask, and he nods, coming to pull me back to the bed. "There is no need for that; I am fine," I add with a frown, but he does not stop pulling me.
You can't tell if you are fine or not until a doctor says so."
"This is my body, and it only hurts for a moment, but now I am okay," I say, trying to break free from his strong grip on my hand. His reaction earlier was what made me blow it all out of proportion in the first place. I have been hurt far worse, and I still survived.
"Just cancel on her; I am sure she must be too busy to come down here."
"Busy? She attends to me as a priority, so don't move and sit here." he pushes me to the bed, and as my body lands on the soft foam, I know I can't win against him here.
