But the Hayes family had always said if Stella wanted something, they'd have to get it for her. Plus, there were probably a bunch of reporters waiting outside, just dying to see what the Hayes family would end up buying for Stella.
Andrew, Fiona, and Max quickly checked their finances. They only had 60 million dollars left to spend. With so many other expenses coming up, they could only afford to spend 30 million dollars.
"18 million." Someone called out.
"21 million." Another bidder shouted.
Before the Hayes family even had a chance to bid, the price had already hit 30 million dollars. Fiona was a bundle of nerves, quickly looking between her son and husband. Andrew stopped her.
Max raised his paddle. "33 million."
"45 million," Jordan called out.
Max gripped the armrest even tighter and called out again, "48 million."
"60 million dollars." No one expected those words to come out of Stella's mouth.
It had been obvious to everyone that whenever Jordan raised his paddle, it was for Stella.'Was she really planning to pay for it out of her own pocket?' they wondered,
Even Jordan couldn't hide his surprise as he looked at her. Stella met his gaze with a bright smile. Lionel's grip tightened even more, his nails digging into his skin.
"63 million," Lionel called out. Everyone in the Hayes family was sweating bullets. They were already at their limit of 60 million dollars. There was just no way they could go any higher.
Stella looked like she was dead set on going head-to-head with Lionel. She said, "75 million."
"78 million," Lionel shouted.
"90 million dollars," Stella called out without missing a beat.
As Lionel shouted, he overheard someone nearby whisper. "Lionel only bumps it up by 3 million each time. But look at Stella, she just throws out big."
Lionel's palms were slick with sweat. He didn't have nearly that much money. And his family's situation has been a mess lately. 'But if I lose to Stella, that'd be a real slap in the face,' he thought bitterly.
"90 million, going once." The auctioneer called out.
"90 million, going twice!"
"90 million—"
"300 million..." Lionel opened his mouth, ready to call out a new bid, but as everyone turned to stare at him, the words just got stuck in his throat.
Because he saw Stella turn her head and flash him a confident smile, as if to say, "Go ahead, no matter what number you shout, I'll just raise you again."
In the end, Lionel couldn't get a single word out. Anna couldn't help but feel disappointed inside.
When Lionel started bidding, the first thing that popped into her mind was that he was definitely going to win it and give it to her as their wedding gift. But in the end, he didn't.
Still, she didn't blame Lionel. It really was just too much. There was no need to spend 90 million on it. In the end, Stella won the phoenix crown.
As everyone started to get up and leave, Stella suddenly stood up and walked over to the host. "Can I say a few words?" she asked.
"Of course," the host replied. He handed the microphone to Stella.
Stella walked over to the phoenix crown, microphone in hand, and looked at Jordan. "Jordan, we haven't had our wedding yet because you wanted me to take care of my health first.
"But I've already decided. When the day comes that we can finally have our wedding, I'll wear this crown as your bride. This will be my gift for you."
Everyone was blown away.
"That's so sweet," someone exclaimed.
"Mr. Erwin is seriously so lucky," another person gushed.
"She actually put up 90 million as her gift? That's wild." Someone else chimed in.
Everyone was whispering. "How come Stella can just drop that kind of cash, but the Quinn family and the Hayes family can't even come close? Is there something we're missing here?"
"Wait, didn't the Hayes family promise to buy Stella a gift? So why didn't they go through with it?"
The Hayes and Lionel could feel everyone throwing them those judgmental looks, and their faces looked pretty sour as they couldn't get out of there fast enough.
