The fruit knife shot straight toward Stella's eye. Just as the tip was about to stab into her eye, she closed her eyes, bracing herself for death.
In that split second, she heard the clatter of the knife hitting the floor. She opened her eyes and saw Kevin and Jordan.
Jordan kicked Troy away, rushed to Stella's side, and held her in his arms. "Are you okay?" he asked.
Stella clung to him tightly and said, "Jordan, I thought I was going to die."
Jordan hugged her tighter. "No, you aren't. As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you."
Stella broke down in tears. For the past three years, no matter what happened, she never dared to cry because it would only slow her down if she needed to run and cloud her mind when she needed to think.
She had to make sure she was safe and could get away. Therefore, her nerves had been stretched taut all the time.
But at that moment, with Jordan by her side, she could finally break down and cry without holding anything back.
As Troy was knocked to the ground, Jordan said to Kevin, "Call the police."
Kevin didn't move.
With a cold look on his face, Jordan asked, "Are you still trying to cover for him?"
"No," Kevin replied.
As Kevin took out his phone, ready to call the police, Troy stared at him and asked, "Kevin, are you sure you want to do this?"
Kevin shot Troy a look and called the police without hesitation.
Obviously, the party couldn't continue. Before Jordan left with Stella in his arms, he specially told the police to find the mastermind behind all this, no matter what it took.
The police promised they would do everything in their power to do this.
Back at home, Jordan looked at Stella apologetically.
He said, "I'm sorry. This was my oversight. I thought you would be fine resting in the lounge. I figured the Hayes family had all left, so no one would hurt you. I didn't expect Troy to take advantage of the situation."
"It's okay. It's not your fault. I didn't expect Troy to come, either. After all I've been through, something like this doesn't even faze me," Stella replied.
After a while, Stella had mostly calmed down.
Compared to what the Hayes family put her through, what Troy did was nothing at all. However, she still had doubts.
"Are you suspecting Troy's appearance might be connected to the Hayes family?" Jordan asked.
"I can't think of any other reason," Stella said.
Jordan frowned slightly and wondered, 'How could a family go this far? What kind of hatred could make them treat their daughter like this?
'And yet, every time they saw Stella, they claimed to know they had wronged her and would make it up to her. How ridiculous.'
"Get some rest," Jordan then said.
Stella nodded.
The Carver family was really disgusting. After the incident, they still didn't think Troy had done anything wrong. Instead, they blamed Stella for going after both the Hayes family and the Erwin Group.
Stella had her phone, so of course, she knew all the news about this. However, instead of calling Jordan, the very first person she reached out to was Kevin.
"Kevin, how are you holding up?" she asked.
"I'm fine," Kevin replied.
Stella frowned slightly. "Do you think I can't tell? Your dad hit you, right?"
Kevin said, "Of course not. When I took Troy to the police station, my dad found out, and he was furious. But the cops insisted that you attacked Troy, and now they won't allow my family to see Troy.
"Right now, I'm the only one left in the Carver family. My dad knows how much he needs me."
Stella didn't reply. She knew Kevin was lying to her because no one who had been beaten up would sound that calm. But since he didn't want to tell her, she could only pretend she didn't notice.
