"I'm sorry I can't help you. My family is determined to go after the Hayes family and Jordan," Kevin said.
"I don't care what happens to the Hayes family. As for Jordan, I'm not worried about him at all. He'll know how to handle it," Stella replied.
"You trust him that much?" Kevin hesitated for a while before getting these words out.
"Kevin, you know what Jordan is capable of. If your family tries to go up against him, it won't end well for them. You know what I mean, right?" Stella said.
Kevin fell silent.
"Well, I'm going to call Jordan now," Stella said. She didn't say anything else and just hung up.
Kevin couldn't help feeling bitter, but he had to admit that Stella wasn't wrong about any of it.
The Carver family was going all out against Jordan, publicly claiming that Jordan was a truly dangerous man behind his cold exterior.
They said Jordan was actually a playboy who got bored with one woman and moved on to the next, and sometimes juggled several women at once behind the scenes.
They insisted that Jordan only married Stella because he saw the benefits he could get from her.
Stella's story of escaping from Dusty Pines was already well-known and inspiring. People admired her and praised her intelligence.
The Carver family claimed that Jordan would use Stella just as the Hayes family did, which couldn't cover up the truth about his wild private life anyway.
These rumors were hitting the Erwin Group hard. The stock price kept dropping. It wasn't a crisis yet, but things would only get worse if the group didn't figure out a way to handle it soon.
Stella called Jordan.
When Jordan answered, his tone was as steady as ever, like all this was nothing worth worrying about. He asked, "Are you calling because you saw all that stuff blowing up online?"
"The Carver family has been shameless, but this time they've hit a new low," Stella said.
Jordan replied, "You're right. The Carver family only has two heirs. Troy is the older one. If he hadn't been so coddled all these years, he wouldn't have turned out like this.
"Troy's mother is always stirring up trouble. His father is completely helpless and only follows his mother's orders.
"Right now, things aren't looking good for Kevin, but if he is smart about it, there's a lot he could gain."
"I told him to go to you," Stella said.
Jordan smiled and said, "I'm honestly jealous of him. He has known you for so long, and you treat him so well."
Stella's heart skipped a beat. She wasn't sure what Jordan meant by "jealous". She wondered if he was envious because he never got to be as close to her as Kevin was, or if he had feelings for her.
Immediately, Stella shot down that latter possibility herself.
"Looks like you've got a solution," Stella said.
"This little trick is nothing to me," Jordan replied.
Stella trusted Jordan completely.
After Stella learned that he had saved her, she went online and looked up everything she could about Jordan.
She saw, clear as day, everything he had done during the years she had been gone.
She could tell that the Carver family had really met their match this time.
"Andrew came to me," Jordan said.
Stella frowned a little. "To cooperate with you?"
"Probably," Jordan replied.
Stella was sharp. With just a few words from Jordan, she understood everything. People wouldn't feel tired when talking to her.
"Do you want me to meet him?" Jordan asked.
Stella was taken aback for a second. She asked, "Do you want to?"
"Either way is fine," Jordan replied. He sounded laid-back, like he wouldn't bat an eye at any trouble.
"Your call," Stella said.
"Got it," Jordan replied.
They didn't say much more after that. Jordan simply told Stella to get some rest and not to stress about anything else, emphasizing that what mattered was getting well and preparing to work on the new software.
In the Erwin Group, Andrew had waited for Jordan for half an hour in the meeting room before Jordan finally showed up. Andrew had never expected that.
