Everyone knew that once Lillian divorced Joey, she would lose the protection of her in-laws, and from then on, no one would have her back, no matter what she did.
Of course, there was still a way out if she wanted. As long as she tried to please Kevin, he would still throw her a lifeline.
Jordan's lips curled into a smile. He thought, 'Well, Stella always manages to surprise me.'
"Wh-what did you say?" Lillian stared at Stella in disbelief.
"So, do you agree?" Stella asked.
"Who gave you the right to control my marriage?" Lillian shot back. With her eyes wide, she glared at Stella.
Stella smirked and said, "Simple. If I want, I could ruin Joey's company overnight."
Lillian instantly laughed out loud. Everyone else also wanted to laugh, but no one dared make a sound.
For some reason, the strange tension in the room made Lillian's laughter die in her throat.
Stella's smirk stayed right where it was. "What? You don't believe me?"
Lillian didn't say a word.
"If you make the smart choice, you might save yourself a lot of trouble," Stella said.
Joey kept his eyes fixed on Lillian. He said, "Don't listen to her nonsense. Even if you divorce me, she'll still make things hard for you. She is just trying to drive a wedge between us."
Lillian couldn't take her eyes off Joey. She said, "I'm sorry, honey. I'm afraid I should do that. I never realized that girl could be a holy terror.
"It's just too much, too painful. I can't hold on anymore. She doesn't want money or anything else. She only wants us to split up. I have to divorce you."
The room erupted in shock. People thought, 'Lillian can't even take this and is ready to call it quits, so everything Joey did for the Carver family before was all just a joke, wasn't it?'
"Jordan, is the divorce agreement ready?" Stella asked.
"Of course," Jordan replied.
Jordan didn't even bother to show it to Stella. He directly handed the papers to Lillian.
Lillian's eyes went wide as she read the terms stating that she was supposed to get nothing.
When she looked up at Stella, Stella just said in a flat voice, "Don't you want to sign?"
"I'll sign right now," Lillian said.
She snatched the pen from the assistant and quickly signed her name on the papers.
When she handed the papers to Joey, he read the terms and thought, 'Lillian is supposed to get nothing? It's meant to make things as hard as possible for her. How could she still sign?'
"Are you sure about this?" Joey asked.
"Yes, I'm sure. I can't stand this anymore. Just sign it," Lillian said.
Joey looked at Lillian and thought, 'She'd rather sign the divorce papers than go through any more pain. What a selfish person I fell for!' With this, Joey signed the papers.
Stella glanced over with a satisfied smile. "Mr. Carson, I do you a favor, don't I? I help you get rid of a woman you would never have seen through in your whole life. You're still young. Maybe you'll find yourself a younger wife."
Joey's heart was filled with nothing but pain. He wondered why things turned out like this.
Lillian was sprawled on the floor like a dog, desperately begging Stella to spare her.
Stella said, "Break her legs and toss her outside."
"Yes," her assistant replied.
Lillian tried to resist. She cried out, "Stella, didn't you say you would let me go? Why are you still doing this to me?"
Stella just replied, "I am letting you go, aren't I? But I never said I wouldn't rough you up a bit before that."
Lillian was dumbfounded. The instant her legs were smashed, she screamed out loud again. She was then thrown out, not even fully dressed.
Kevin secretly called his father, urging him to come get Lillian out of there as fast as he could.
