Stella woke up early in the morning and found that Jordan had made breakfast and was waiting for her.
"Why are you up making breakfast?" she asked.
"I just woke up early and didn't have anything else to do, so I thought I'd make you breakfast," Jordan replied.
"Thank you." Stella sat down with a smile on her face. She looked genuinely expectant. She picked up her fork and started eating right away.
Lately, she had been eating better at breakfast. Her flushed cheeks reminded Jordan of the photos he had seen of her at eighteen, where he could already see those same contours in her face.
"This is really good. You're pretty good at this," Stella said.
The servant nearby couldn't help but chime in, "Of course. Mr. Erwin made it specially—"
"That's enough out of you," Jordan cut the servant off with a warning.
Stella looked at him in surprise. "Did you wake up early just to make breakfast for me?"
"I'm not sure if it is to your taste," Jordan said.
"It's really good," Stella replied.
She had never been a picky eater. She never dared to be so because it was enough for her to have a meal at home. She didn't expect more.
However, no one had ever cooked for her before, let alone had secretly gotten up early on purpose to do it.
Stella's voice caught in her throat. She asked, "Don't you think I looked terrifying last night?"
Jordan suddenly reached out and took her hand.
Stella was startled and instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but Jordan's eyes were locked on hers, not giving her a chance.
"Stella," he said, "stop worrying so much about what other people think. After everything you've been through, why should you have to be the nice one and forgive everyone?
"People who deserve punishment should be punished. They're the ones who are rotten, not you. Don't ever think you're being too ruthless.
"Honestly, they should be glad it was you who acted last night. If it had been me, I would've stomped Lillian's eyeballs out and fed them to the dogs."
Stella wasn't scared by his words. Instead, she felt that he was trying to comfort her and ease the weight in her heart.
Stella had heard rumors about how scary Jordan was, but in her eyes, he was the best guy in the world.
"I get it. I won't think like that anymore," Stella said.
Jordan reluctantly let go of her hand. He said, "I don't think you were harsh at all. You only act that way toward people who mess with you, and there's nothing wrong with that."
Stella nodded. "Thank you. I got it."
"Good. Let's eat," Jordan said.
The servant watched them, with her face breaking into that classic doting smile.
Ever since Stella moved in, Jordan had become so much warmer. Before, he wouldn't even bother with breakfast. Honestly, just getting him to eat in the morning was already a miracle.
But now, with Stella around, he sat down for proper meals every day, and he had even personally cooked breakfast today.
The servant felt that if this continued, once Stella recovered, Jordan and Stella might sleep together, and if they had a kid, this house would be perfect.
As they finished breakfast, a servant came in and reported that Lionel had come.
Jordan let out a cold laugh. "Is he upset because everyone else got what they deserved except for him?"
"He said he wants to see Stella and take her to the hospital to check on the rest of the Hayes family. They're all in pretty bad shape," the servant explained.
Jordan turned to look at Stella, waiting for her answer.
Stella asked, "Did he say he would keep waiting there for me as long as I don't go out?"
The servant nodded.
"Jordan, do you have time later?" Stella asked.
Jordan seemed to get what Stella meant. "I do," he replied.
In fact, he had an important meeting later, but nothing mattered more than Stella. He would let his assistant take care of the meeting.
"Can you go with me to the hospital?" Stella asked.
