Fiona quickly pulled Anna back and said, "What are you doing? Don't beg her. She is the last one you could ever beg."
Anna sobbed, "Mom, Max is still inside the ICU. We can't just do nothing about him. If something really bad happens to him, could you live with that?"
"But she's got a heart of stone. Even if you beg her, it won't change anything," Fiona said.
"I still have to try. I believe Stella won't just stand by and do nothing," Anna insisted.
Emily couldn't take it anymore. She walked right up to Stella and swung her hand for a slap, but Stella caught her wrist in midair.
Emily said, "Stella, how did you become so terrifying? You used to refuse to step on even an ant, saying every creature has its own life and fate, which shouldn't be controlled by people.
"But ever since you came back, you've been so cold-blooded. Aren't you afraid people will talk, and you'll be too ashamed to show up in public?"
Stella slapped her right back and said, "Emily, you're in no place to lecture me. Maybe you should think about whether you played a part in my kidnapping."
Emily's face twisted in shock as she stared at Stella. Emily thought, 'No way. How could she know? This can't be true.'
Stella narrowed her eyes. "Judging by your reaction, Emily, are you admitting, even if indirectly, that you and Anna were the ones who found kidnappers and set up that kidnapping back then?"
Emily stumbled back and nearly fell, and Anna quickly went to steady her.
Anna said, "Stella, I know you've never let go of what happened back then, but you can't just pin it on us, especially Emily. She was your best friend. How could she ever hurt you?"
When Fiona and Andrew heard Stella's words, they instinctively glanced at Emily, half-believing Emily might have done it. But after hearing Anna's defense, they realized how impossible that sounded.
"You're my sister, but you hurt me, didn't you?" Stella shot back.
Anna pulled a fruit knife out of her bag and handed it straight to Stella. Anna said, "Fine. If you say we did it, then go ahead and take your revenge now."
"You really think I wouldn't dare lay a hand on you?" Stella asked.
Stella grabbed the fruit knife from Anna without hesitation.
Instinctively, Fiona stepped in front of Anna.
Fiona yelled, "Stella, didn't we settle this before? Why are you still clinging to this story? Wasn't it enough to frame Anna? Now you want to pin it on Emily, too? Have you completely lost your mind?"
Stella couldn't help but laugh at that.
Before she could say anything, a doctor hurried over to Lionel and said, "Dr. Quinn, something's wrong. Max's condition is extremely critical. He might not hold on much longer."
Fiona's legs gave out. "Why is this happening? Save my son now!" she cried out.
Lionel turned to Stella and said, "The funds for Max's hospital stay are almost run out. You need to pay up now." Then he went inside the ICU.
Fiona grabbed Stella and said, "Pay the bill. We can give you the Hayes Group, but you must save Max."
"The Hayes Group is already mine. There's no way you can take it back. Besides, you're not broke. Why should I be the one footing the bill?" Stella shot back.
"We can't sell off our assets overnight. Stella, I'm begging you, please," Fiona pleaded desperately.
"Save your breath. I'm not giving you a dime," Stella replied.
Andrew raised his hand to slap Stella, but Jordan caught his wrist in a flash.
Jordan warned, "Mr. Hayes, if you want to hit her, you'll have to ask for my permission."
Andrew and Jordan stared at each other, but Andrew was no match for the younger man.
