Stella said, "How about you go sell your blood? Maybe that'll be quicker. Back then, when I wanted to join a school club event and you refused to give me a cent, I had no choice but to sell my blood."
Jordan looked at her in disbelief. "You sold your blood?"
"Yeah, I did. If I hadn't been desperate, I would never have done that," Stella replied in a tone so calm and distant, like she was talking about someone else's story.
Jordan couldn't help but wonder what kind of pain could turn a person into this.
Stella went on, "I wanted to attend that event so badly. Everyone in my class was going. I had spent almost all the money I saved. Honestly, by the time I was five, I knew I would never get a single cent from them.
"Sure, Grandma would help me out sometimes, but she was in poor health back then, and I didn't want to keep asking her for money all the time.
"Even my teacher offered me help to cover the cost after she knew my situation. But I wasn't supposed to rely on my teacher every single time.
"I used to see people selling their blood on TV or in novels. I thought they must have it rough, so they had no choice but to sell blood.
"I had never expected that I would do the same, and not just once.
"There were a few times I ate a little more than usual after I came back home from selling my blood, but they looked at me like I was a freeloader. Honestly, it just broke me.
"We were all family, but why was I the one who was treated so unfairly? But whenever I saw Anna's health problems, I couldn't bring myself to resent it anymore. At least I was healthy, and that was enough.
"Later, when I was living in Dusty Pines, I had a lot of time to think about the past. I finally realized that I was never the one at fault. It was always them.
"All those years, I tried so hard to be the daughter they wanted. I studied hard, just hoping to make them proud of me. But no matter what I did, they never saw me as good enough.
"Well, now, they want my help and expect me to bail them out. Let me make this crystal clear. That's never gonna happen, not in a million years."
Jordan shook off Andrew's hand and carried Stella up without hesitation.
Before leaving, he turned back to glare at the others. He said, "Listen. Even if you're on your last breath, don't dare come to her for help. She won't lift a finger for you. If you try, I'll personally throw you out myself."
As Jordan walked away, he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Even when things were rough for him, the worst he ever had was living off dinner rolls and bread. He never had to sell his blood.
However, Stella was supposed to have a decent family and live happily, yet she still ended up having to do something like that.
Jordan thought, 'The Hayes family is so horrible. No wonder Stella became like this. It was all because they pushed her to the edge.'
Just then, a doctor rushed over. "What's wrong with you? Why haven't you paid the bill yet? The hospital hasn't cut you off only because of Dr. Quinn."
Anna blurted out, "I'll sell my blood. I have to save Max."
Fiona said, "You can't give blood. What if something happens to you?"
"I'll do it then," Emily blurted out.
Andrew said, "None of you needs to sell your blood. Fiona, don't tell me you don't have any money left. You've been in charge of family finances all these years. Just take out 30 thousand dollars."
Fiona's face went deathly pale.
