Andrew noticed something was off with Fiona and walked over to her. He asked, "What's wrong? Can't we even come up with 30 thousand dollars?"
"Of course, we have it. How could we not?" Fiona said, searching for her wallet, but it was obvious she was just stalling.
Andrew kept his eyes on her.
Just then, Fiona's phone rang. She looked as if she had found the savior. She seized the chance and started walking out while saying, "I need to take this call. I'll go pay later."
Andrew realized something was up and told her to stay put, but Fiona left like a shot.
Anna quickly stepped in to stop Andrew. "Dad, don't worry. Mom will take care of it. Let's figure out another way. I can sell my jewelry. I'll go do it right now."
Andrew's face darkened. "No. This is our family's issue. I can't let you sell your stuff for this. Stella is the one who turns her back on us. If there's anyone to blame, it's her, not you. You shouldn't have to pay for her mistakes."
A sly smile curled on Anna's lips. In her eyes, Stella was an idiot. Stella butt heads with their parents, while Anna could make them be on her side with a few words.
Stella might have everything now, but Anna was sure all of it would end up back in her hands sooner or later.
Not wanting to just sit around and do nothing, Anna hurried off to see Lionel.
Anna arrived at his office, knocked on the door, and called out sweetly, "Lionel, are you busy?"
"No. Did you get Max's surgery paid for?" Lionel asked.
Anna brought Emily into the office with her and said, "Here's the thing. You've seen what's going on with my family. I hate to ask, but I'm honestly out of options. Could you lend me some money?"
Lionel looked at her. "Anna, don't say that. We're engaged. There's no need to talk about borrowing between us."
"Yeah, but we're not married yet. We've already put in so much money ourselves, and we really can't come up with any more. You know how bad Max's situation is. We can't just stand by and watch him lying there, can we?" Anna said.
Lionel paused for a moment and then said, "You're right. I should help you, but things are a bit tight for me right now. I have 15 thousand dollars on hand. I'll go pay it at the inpatient department for you in a bit."
Anna was shocked.
Back when Hayes Group had asked for hundreds of millions, the Quinn family didn't help. Now, Max's hospital bill was just 300 thousand dollars, but Lionel was only offering 15 thousand dollars, even less than the cost of any purse Anna bought.
Emily was just as shocked. She was even starting to look down on Lionel.
The Quinn family was a big-shot clan, which was worth billions of dollars at their peak. However, all Lionel could cough up for Max was 15 thousand dollars. Emily felt it was unbelievable.
Emily thought, 'Seriously? Anna could get way more than 15 thousand dollars by selling one of her purses.'
"Sorry, I don't have that much at hand, Anna. This is all I can do to help," Lionel said.
Lionel knew 15 thousand dollars was barely anything, but that was all he had. He really had no other way.
Lately, his parents had been pressuring him to break up with Anna. With the Hayes Group taken over by Stella, Lionel's parents liked Stella even more. If Stella hadn't married, they would have tried to set him up with her.
However, the Hayes family was in bad shape now. Lionel's parents figured Lionel should marry someone better than Anna, with all his potential.
