If Lionel insisted on staying with Anna, not only would the Hayes family be unable to help, but the Quinn family would have to help the Hayes family.
Lionel felt a pang of guilt. He had already let Stella down. He couldn't do the same to Anna. He was willing to give Anna every last cent he had.
"No, thanks, Lionel. You save that money. I'll try to find another way," Anna said.
With that, Anna walked out of the office.
Emily muttered, "What does Mr. Quinn mean? 15 thousand dollars? Is he trying to humiliate you? I gave you 30 thousand dollars, but he only comes up with 15? See what I mean—"
"Enough. Are you done yet?" Anna snapped, not wanting to hear another word.
Emily was surprised by Anna's reaction. She wondered, 'Anna has always seemed so delicate and sweet. When did she get so harsh?'
Realizing she had let her real self slip out, Anna quickly put on her usual smile and said, "Sorry, I was just feeling upset. I didn't mean to take it out on you. Please don't be mad."
Emily thought maybe she had seen it wrong and shook her head.
Anna glanced at Emily, and her gaze instantly turned icy.
Meanwhile, Silas came to Fiona, complaining about how slow Fiona was. He grumbled, "How many times did I call you? What took you so long?"
"It's because Max is in the hospital," Fiona shot back.
"I know. He got hit by a truck. Don't worry, I talked to the driver. He's just a worker. There's a boss behind him. I'll go talk to his boss and make sure we get the money back for you," Silas assured her.
Fiona finally felt relieved after hearing that. She said, "Don't just show up for no reason. I told you that we're really out of money these days."
Silas said, "Fiona, don't fool me. You said you were broke back then, too, but you still managed to come up with cash, didn't you? Hurry up. If you don't give me the money, they're going to chop off my balls.
"I still haven't had a son. Don't you sympathize with me?"
Fiona had a splitting headache. "It's not that I don't want to. I'm really out of cash. Do you know how much I've given you behind Andrew's back? Why can't you hold onto your money for once instead of blowing it all on gambling?
"Andrew is getting suspicious. If he finds out about this, he'll get mad."
Silas stared at her in disbelief. "Wait, you never told him? Why the hell not?"
"How am I supposed to tell him? If he ever found out you blew all that money on gambling back then and now, do you think he would stick around with me?" Fiona shot back.
"What about Max? He can't just leave me hanging, can he?" Silas said.
"I can't even scrape together 30 thousand dollars right now. Max is still unconsciously lying in a hospital bed. How am I supposed to care about you at such a time?" Fiona shot back.
"I don't care. You have to give me the money. I've been racking my brains trying to help you these days. By the way, didn't you say you had some jewelry? Hand it all over," Silas demanded.
Fiona was at her wits' end. "I already gave you all my jewelry. There's nothing left."
"What about Anna's? I'm her uncle, too. Anna wouldn't turn a blind eye and let me suffer," Silas insisted.
Fiona was instantly irritated. "How could you even think about going after Anna's belongings? Listen, you can try your luck with anyone else, but don't you dare lay a finger on my daughter's stuff.
"Those pieces have their usage. You know how delicate her health is. If anything happened to her, could you afford it?"
Silas was really anxious now. Just then, his phone started ringing. It was a debt collector again. Without thinking, Silas tried to grab Fiona's purse.
