Fiona could only watch helplessly as all the Clarks went back inside and quickly locked the door behind them. She stared in disbelief at the closed door.
She thought, 'Are these my family? I spent so much money on them, even let my home fall apart, and this is how they treat me?' She finally broke down and started wailing, her cries echoing in the air.
The garbage pile was full of every kind of nasty, rotten trash, and the stench was so bad it made Fiona want to give up on life right then and there.
She struggled to crawl out of the heap, but by the time she made it, she was covered head to toe in filth—she looked miserable, a total wreck.
Stella, who had been watching the whole thing unfold, turned to Jordan and said, "Let's go."
Jordan nodded.
As the car started to pull away, Fiona seemed to realize it was Jordan's car. She yelled out, "Jordan, don't go. I'm Fiona. Where are you going? Don't leave me."
But the car just kept driving, quickly disappearing from sight.
Fiona could only watch helplessly as the car vanished without a trace. She wanted to cry, but found herself too numb for tears. She screamed inwardly, 'Why is this happening to me? Why?'
Inside the car, Eleanor held Stella's hand tightly.
Stella did feel a bit of vindication seeing Fiona finally get what she deserved, but more than anything, she just felt sad.
She could understand why Fiona treated the Clark family better than her—after all, they were the ones who raised Fiona. But what really stung was seeing that even the little dog Bella kept was treated better than she ever was.
Every time Stella went to the Clark residence with Anna, she couldn't help but wonder—how come nobody in the Clark family ever had to work, but somehow their life just kept getting better?
They were moving from one house to another all the time—one day it was a new place, the next day another. And the children in the Clark family always had new outfits to show off.
On the contrary, Stella, the real heiress, didn't have anything at all. Even for class activity fees, she had to scrimp and save forever just to scrape enough together.
Later, when Stella grew up, she realized that the Clark family's money all came from Fiona.
Fiona had been sending the Clark family 30 thousand every month for almost thirty years. Back when the Hayes family was on the brink of bankruptcy, it was Fiona's endless cash infusions to the Clark family that pushed them over the edge.
And as luck would have it, that was exactly when Andrew's investments had tanked. He never cared about money and had no clue how much he had. So when Fiona blamed their empty coffers on his own failed investments, he never questioned it.
Stella had known everything for a while, and she was always torn about whether or not to tell Andrew the truth. But before she could make up her mind, the whole kidnapping thing happened.
When she heard her parents and Max all chose to save Anna instead of her, it hit her—she honestly meant nothing in the Hayes family.
Stella had never expected her parents to come save her anyway, and sure enough, they didn't—just like she thought they wouldn't. She thought bitterly, 'Great. This is how they treat their daughter.'
Jordan's eyes kept drifting over to Stella. Seeing how down she looked, he thought, 'Fiona's finally getting her karma, but why does Stella still look so unhappy? Maybe Fiona just hasn't suffered enough yet. Guess it's time for me to do something.'
As if a thought suddenly struck her, Stella looked over at Jordan and said, "Jordan, don't let them dirty your hands. Even if you're just the one giving orders, it's still not okay."
There had been more than a few times when Stella knew it was Jordan who had people handle things behind the scenes.
Stella added, "I want them to suffer slowly, bit by bit—not just get it over with all at once."
Jordan nodded. He thought, 'It made sense. For the past three years, Stella has been living through hell, every single day a new kind of torment. Why should they get their punishment so fast? Let them break down slowly, piece by piece.'
