The next day, Stella headed to work. Suddenly, someone reached out and blocked her car. It was Emily. Stella didn't hesitate. "Hit her, and then go around."
The driver paused for a second but followed the order. Emily got hit by the car. Just when she couldn't believe it, the car reversed a bit and then drove around her to leave.
Emily tried to shout, but no matter how hard she yelled, it was no use. The car was already gone. Stella hadn't been at the office long before the front desk called her, saying a woman named Emily was there to see her.
Stella smirked. Emily must be trying to cause trouble. "Let her in," Stella said.
Emily walked right up to Stella as soon as she came in and started yelling. "Stella, are you serious? Your dad and brother are seriously ill and need treatment at a top hospital. You took them there. Are you trying to give up on them?
"They've done so much for you. They gave you life. How can you be so ungrateful and heartless?"
Stella laughed at Emily's angry rant. "Emily, do you even hear what you're saying? They did so much for me? What exactly did they do? They always favored Anna since we were kids. They didn't care if I lived or died.
"I transferred them out. I didn't abandon them, did I? At least I made sure doctors kept them alive. What about Anna?
"If I'm right, you haven't been able to get a hold of her lately. I heard she ran off because the Hayes family couldn't pay their bills. Anna is the real ungrateful and heartless one."
Emily's face shifted for a moment, but quickly went back to normal. "I don't believe Anna is like that. She's been good to me. She just went to raise some money. When she comes back, she'll take care of them for sure."
Stella laughed again. "Don't hold your breath. But here's one thing I do believe. She might ignore her parents and brother, but she won't ignore you."
Emily's face turned pale. Stella went on, "I heard you two were close back in high school, right?"
"No, that's not true," Emily said, clearly uncomfortable. Stella had invited her in just to test her.
All the old traces had been wiped away. No amount of investigation alone could uncover the truth. Only a mind game would work.
Stella said, "Emily, I'm asking because I already know. I want to know why you became friends with me back then."
Emily wanted to leave. "Well, if you don't want to deal with it, I will. I have things to do, so I'm leaving."
"Did I say you could leave?" Stella's voice was cold and deadly.
Emily froze. Stella stood up and walked toward her. She could feel Emily's body tense up. Standing in front of her, Stella put her hand on Emily's shoulder. "Relax. I'm not going to hurt you, Emily. Calm down."
Emily looked even more nervous. Her eyes flickered wildly every time she looked at Stella. Stella said, "It's nothing serious. If you are close with Anna, that's fine. But I want to know if you've done anything bad to me because of what Anna said."
Emily answered, "No, Stella. I did talk to her before, but we weren't close. I told you everything about Anna when you came back to see me. It's not what you think!"
Stella kept watching her. Emily looked panicked but tried to stay calm. Stella asked, "Has Anna contacted you recently?"
