Without a second thought, he jumped down, turned around, and got ready to catch Stella. What he didn't expect was that Jordan jumped right after him.
Jordan immediately tossed his wet cloth to the ground and reached out to Stella. "Come here, I've got you."
Kevin knew they were married now, so it was only natural for Jordan to do that. But if he tried to do the same, it would just feel wrong.
Still, he didn't want to let this chance slip by. He wanted to see who Stella would choose in the end.
When he saw Stella go straight to Jordan without even a moment's hesitation, Kevin's heart sank. But there was no time to dwell on it. He looked around and said, "We need to get out of here. The fire could spread."
The three of them rushed out as fast as they could. And they made sure to call the fire department on their way out.
Once they were safely in the car, they had no idea that not far away, Anna was watching the whole scene unfold from her car, a cold smile spreading across her face.
"Emily, did you see that? You almost ruined everything for me, but fortunately, I already had everything under control," Anna said.
"You definitely can't leave now. I need to hide you somewhere," she added.
Emily watched as the house she'd called home for just over two years went up in flames, a bitter taste in her mouth.
She'd grown up with nothing, always on the outside looking in as Stella, Anna, and Kevin lived in beautiful homes, wore stylish clothes, and enjoyed delicious meals every day. 'Why is it that people like them get everything, and I get nothing?' she thought.
For the past two years, helping Anna had brought her plenty of rewards. Anna showered her with gifts and luxuries, and Emily had gotten so used to this life that she'd lost herself in it.
'I don't want to go back to being poor. Never again,' she thought.
While sitting in the car, it only now occurred to Stella to check the surveillance cameras in the area. But to her surprise, all the nearby cameras had already been destroyed.
"It's like whoever's behind this always knows exactly what I'm going to do," Stella said.
Jordan glanced at her as he drove. "Have you ever wondered who in this world knows you better than anyone else?"
Stella's gaze grew more intense. "I know. That's exactly why she's always so clean and efficient with everything she does. But just because she's careful doesn't mean she won't ever slip up."
"As long as I'm still breathing, I'll find her weakness one day," Stella added.
"So you're sure it was Anna?" Jordan asked.
Stella didn't want to believe it, but the evidence was right there in front of her. Emily was the last person to call Eleanor. 'Why would Emily call Eleanor? Wasn't she just helping Anna?' Stella thought.
Even though Anna had covered her tracks so well that Stella couldn't find any solid proof, it didn't mean Stella didn't know it was her.
'Eleanor is Anna's grandmother. How could she do something like this?' Stella wondered, her heart breaking.
Jordan saw Stella trembling. He pulled over to the side of the road, reached out with his right hand, and covered her hands with his, squeezing them gently. He didn't say a word and just held her hands, letting his presence comfort her.
Kevin had been trailing them the whole time, and he just couldn't shake the worry. Not knowing what was going on, he pulled over and got out of his car.
He walked over and peered through the car window, calling out, "Stella, what's wrong?"
But when he saw Jordan holding Stella's hands, he couldn't help the ache in his chest; his eyes filled with sadness and pain.
