Stella's lips curled into a smile. She had no idea that, because of her feelings for Jordan, she'd one day do things she never would have believed herself capable of.
Lionel's supermarket finished renovations before hers, and it opened a few days later.
Nola frowned. "Is he crazy? Those renovation materials might still contain something that is bad for people's health. How could he let customers in?"
"I didn't expect that either," Stella said.
Back then, even seeing a little animal get hurt would make Lionel upset. The reason he wanted to be a doctor was that he had a heart for saving lives. But now, his actions have made him more like a cold-blooded villain.
Stella had quietly investigated the Quinn family's situation and knew things weren't going well for them. But what Lionel's doing showed it might be worse than she'd imagined.
He was in such a rush to open the supermarket because he wanted to beat Stella and hoped to push Hayes Group out of the picture for good.
"Ms. Hayes, what should we?" Nola asked.
"How are the people he's hired?" Stella asked.
"There is a lot, because he's offering the highest wages in the industry. But some people know the renovations just finished, so a lot of them are still hesitant to go to work there."
Stella said calmly, "No worries. We'll just stick to our pace. With the way he's running things, he'll end up ruining himself without us even lifting a finger."
Nola nodded in agreement, fully backing Stella's words.
Sure enough, once his supermarket began to do business, the way it was run drew in a lot of customers.
Some people said, "The place just got renovated. That can't be good for our health. Maybe we shouldn't go."
But others didn't think so. "If many people go, and breathe in there, the unhealthy air will soon be removed."
"Suit yourself, but we're not going."
Even so, plenty of people still came to shop. The Quinn family even made a show of posting their first day's sales numbers online to thank everyone for supporting them.
Of course, the happiest people were Lionel's parents. Hasan looked at Lionel with pride, placing a hand on his shoulder. "That's my boy. You're a real business prodigy. Whenever you step in, success is guaranteed."
Erica beamed and said, "Looks like our family's future is only going to get brighter and brighter."
Lionel forced a smile, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. He knew all too well how he'd achieve everything. He'd done the one thing he thought he'd never do in his life.
But he was out of options. Everyone in the Quinn family needed to put food on the table. 'Stella, I hope you'll forgive me. Please,' he thought with guilt.
Over the next two weeks, Lionel's supermarket was booming. More and more people loved shopping there.
The media even put out special write-ups, saying that ever since Lionel took over, he'd delivered an impressive performance, and the industry was about to usher in a whole new era of business models.
Lionel also took the opportunity to give several interviews, and he was all over the media. With his good looks, he had a legion of fangirls swooning over him.
The Quinn family helped promote him, too, saying that Lionel was still single and would let everyone know if he had a girlfriend.
But behind the scenes, they were secretly scouting for potential marriage alliances for Lionel. Lionel just went along with everything, like he was a puppet.
But what kept gnawing at him was the fact that Stella still hadn't made a move. He felt something was off.
He thought, 'Stella has been making so much effort in her supermarket, but why doesn't she still do anything about it?' Lionel made up his mind—if Stella wasn't going to take action, he'd make the first attack.
