But Jordan couldn't do that just yet. He needed to force the truth out of whoever was pulling the strings before he could take them down.
The most important thing right now was to get Stella to the hospital as soon as possible.
Anna had come to visit Max today. Early in the morning, the doctor had called her to say that Max had woken up, but his physical functions still hadn't fully recovered and he'd need some time to rest and heal.
As soon as Anna stepped out of the car, she spotted Jordan. Anna thought, 'Monroe said that Jordan wasn't supposed to be back for another two days. So why is he here now?
'And he's with Kevin. He's hurrying into the hospital with someone in his arms. Who is that? Is that Stella?'
Suddenly, a wave of unease welled up inside her. Anna quickly called Andrew, told him what happened, and urged him to call the police right away.
The police got back to them almost immediately, but said there was nothing they could do—unless they kept it from Jordan. Otherwise, they were afraid this time they'd even end up offending Kevin.
Andrew immediately called Anna back to fill her in on what was going on. Andrew was honestly terrified of Jordan. If Jordan really decided to make a scene, it was never just for show.
Especially that first time Jordan had come home with Stella and roughed Max up—Andrew could still picture it like it was yesterday.
Anna knew exactly what was going on and forced herself to stay calm. She said, "Dad, don't freak out. Let's not scare ourselves for nothing. What if they can't trace it back to us? And remember, we've still got Monroe on our side."
Andrew said, "Right, call Monroe right now! I told you that he's the one who got that other group to go 'deal with' Stella. He'll definitely cover for you."
Anna wasn't worried at all. She thought, 'Monroe is such an idiot. There's no way he'll figure anything out. He'll just end up helping me without even realizing it.'
But what Anna didn't expect was that no matter how many times she tried, she just couldn't get through to Monroe.
Just as Anna was about to give up, the call finally connected. But instead of Monroe, an authoritative old man's voice came through. "Anna?"
Anna reacted fast, blurting out, "Sorry, wrong number." Then she was about to hang up, but the other side didn't give her a chance.
"Anna, I know it's you. Even if you hang up, I'll still find you," the old man said.
Anna didn't say a word.
The old man continued, "I never bothered to talk to you before because I figured Moran would ditch you sooner or later. But I didn't expect him to go this far for you—using my power behind my back. I can't just ignore this anymore.
"He's with me right now. If you want to see him, come here. I'll let you meet him face-to-face. So, are you coming or not?"
"My brother is awake. I need to go see him," Anna replied. With that, she hung up the phone.
At the Johnson residence. Arthur had the call on speaker the whole time. When Anna hung up so decisively, he turned to Monroe.
He said, "See that? That's the girl you like so much. She knows you'll be in trouble with me, but she doesn't even bother to show up. You love her that much, but does she really love you?"
When Monroe heard that Anna wasn't coming, he felt a bit disappointed, but honestly, he was more relieved. If she had come, he didn't know what his grandfather might have done to her.
