Anna smirked and thought, 'Anyway, I tried to stop them. Whatever happens next, it's got nothing to do with me. Stella, you'll never outsmart me.'
Andrew went to Eleanor and laid out Fiona's plan, but Eleanor immediately ripped into him.
Eleanor said, "Are you even Stella's parents? She is clinging to life in the hospital, but you're using her to save the company? As long as she's alive, you'll keep trying to wring every last drop of value from her, won't you?"
Andrew quickly tried to placate her. "Mom, let's not put it that way. But isn't Stella largely to blame for how the Hayes Group ended up in this predicament?"
Eleanor snapped, "Oh, really? If Max wanted to avenge his sister, he should have thought it through and covered his tracks better. Max started all this, yet you keep making Stella take the fall. Have you no shame as parents?"
"Mom!" Andrew cried out. He was a bit angry, but he still kept his composure.
He said, "No, Mom. What other choice do we have now? It's been days already. Maybe this is our only option. What if, once we spread the word, someone immediately comes forward to donate blood to Stella? Everything I'm doing is for Stella's sake."
"Bullshit about 'for her sake'. Get the hell out right now." Eleanor was so furious. She was practically throwing Andrew out.
Andrew still tried to reason with Eleanor, but she didn't give him any chance. Andrew tried to say a few more words from outside, but to no avail. Eleanor simply refused to open the door.
Andrew returned home and told Fiona about it.
Fiona rubbed her temples in frustration and said, "What should we do then? Andrew, are we really just going to sit back and watch the Hayes Group go under?
"I can't believe Mom refused us. She and Dad built the Hayes Group from the ground up. How can she just stand by and watch it go under now?"
Andrew said, "Enough hesitation. Call a press conference."
Fiona stared at him, stunned. "What do you mean by that?"
Andrew said, "We have no choice. We have to do this. Time has run out."
The Hayes family went ahead with the press conference anyway.
In front of the reporters, Fiona cried, "Today, I stand here to beg for help. I didn't want to do this, but I'm out of options. My daughter Stella has been lying unconscious in the hospital for an entire week.
"Not long after her return, she started dating a man named Henry Bass, whom I'm sure you all know. We were initially against their relationship because of the significant age gap between them.
"But they insisted on being together, and as we saw how genuinely good Henry was to Stella, we gradually gave them our blessing.
"However, little did we know that Henry was a monster. He lured Stella to Crescent Villa, only to draw her blood.
"Stella didn't have her period in the last three years, and now, after being forced to have so much of her blood drawn, she is practically at death's door.
"As I'm sure you're all aware, Henry was sent to prison days ago. He is finally facing the consequences he deserves, and we take some comfort in seeing justice served.
"Even though Stella defied our warnings to be with him, and after all that happened, she is still our flesh and blood.
"She was drawn blood because she has what's called the Rh-null blood type. You may not be familiar with it, but there are fewer than fifty documented cases worldwide.
"We have searched relentlessly for a whole week, yet we still haven't found a matching blood donor. We can't just stand by and watch her die. If anyone can find a matching blood donor, we will offer as much reward as we can.
"Ever since Stella came back, our family has been plagued with one crisis after another.
"Mr. Troy Carver brutally slandered Stella, spreading rumors that she had been with countless men. My eldest son Max couldn't stand such insults and beat him up. In retaliation, Mr. Troy Carver rallied other families against us, bringing the Hayes Group into a predicament.
"But if anyone can help Stella, we will spare no expense to reward you. You have my word."
With her speech concluded, Fiona put on a pitiful show and tearfully pleaded with everyone present for their sympathy.
Her performance as "the ever-forgiving mother who was ready to pardon her daughter no matter what she had done" instantly moved many people.
