                    LEILANI.
My hands moved gently through the soapy suds as I washed the dishes in the large kitchen sink. I have always found washing dishes at a leisurely pace calming because of this domestic vibe it had.
Ashley found it weird. Who the fuck likes to do dishes? She would exclaim like it was a deadly sin. I let out a small smile at the memory.
It was late afternoon, a Saturday, and Neil, even though he refused to admit it, was tired from the long stressful work week, compounded by the trip he took yesterday and he spent last night taking care of me thinking I was 'sick', so today, I got up, making sure he saw that I was alright and let him rest.
I could not even believe my ears last night when Neil thought my 'sickness' had to do with pregnancy. It hadn’t even crossed my mind that he could think in that direction.
Gosh.
“W-what do you mean p-pregnancy test?” I had stammered, eyes wide. Even though I was only pretending to be sick, hearing someone say I could be pregnant was pretty jarring.
Neil had shrugged in response.
“I can’t be pregnant, Neil.” I shook my head vigorously, almost forgetting that I was supposed to be weak. “I have an IUD in my womb and I always make my appointments to check it, so there’s no way I could be-”
Neil raised his hands grinning. “Okay, okay, I know all that.”
I scoffed. “It’s not funny.”
He tried to wipe off his grin. “A man can only dream, babe.”
I sent him a soft glare. “We already talked about this. You know how I feel about having a baby when I’m unmarried. Everyone’s a baby mama now and it has become a trend but no one’s talking about what the child truly needs. I don’t want that.”
Neil nodded, growing serious. “I know, Leila. I was just teasing you.” Then he brushed a hand through his hair. “Well, out of the blue, you’re sick and weak and being so emotional…that’s what just popped up in my mind. I’m sorry.”
Well, he was right. Anyone would assume the same. But those signs he mentioned were not real. It was just me faking, to keep a distance from him, but instead, it drew him closer, making him worry over me. So, I told him that I would take a test just to make sure, and this morning I ordered some pregnancy tests, peed on them, and of course, I was not pregnant. It was really stressful to go that far just to cover up my lie.
It was exhausting.
Chase was napping at my feet, draping his giant body all over the place and his ears twitched each time I made a sound. The poor dog had a slight stomach ache after all the food and ice cream it binged on yesterday.
It’s my fault. I was so reckless.
Reckless
Reckless
That word filled up my mind with steamy hot flashbacks of dirty sex and I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to stop it…and failed.
Take me to bed, Adonis
Oh shit.
.. I’m not done fucking you, Leilani...
Jesus.
Don’t moan...
The spike of feminine arousal that suddenly traveled through me made me drop a plate and it fell, I gasped, expecting it to shatter into sharp glass at my feet but it landed with a thud on Chase instead.
He yelped and I dove to retrieve the plate before he truly broke it. Chase shook his body vigorously, whining and I moved to hold him.
“I’m so sorry, baby boy...” I muttered, trying to rub the spot where the plate hit him but he growled at me in a warning and moved his massive body towards the doorway, his black and gold fur rippling with his strong movements.
“Chase...” I called but he toxically ignored me and left the kitchen. I groaned and placed the plate back in the soapy sink.
That dog can be toxic sometimes. As its owner and its owner's step-brother.
Now that I was completely alone in the kitchen, my thoughts promptly drifted to Adonis. I had not seen him since yesterday. He probably didn’t even spend the night here. I was dreading having to eventually come face to face with him.
I’d have to let him know that Neil is my everything, and the sex was just the result of two attractive adults alone in a big house but it would never happen again and we’d have to forget what we did. History. It’s history.
I nodded. That’s the right thing to do.
Satisfied with my decision, I shoved a mug into the sink, but I must have used way too much force because the soapy water splashed and poured all over my tiny apron and the part of my soft shirt that was exposed.
I gasped.
Oh great. This is just great.
Muttering under my breath, I leaned over to grab a towel but I caught a movement at the corner of my sight. So, I paused and looked at the doorway instead and my pulse skipped.
Adonis.
He was standing in the doorway, hands in his pockets. Gorgeous. Sexy. God, how do I keep getting shocked by his devastatingly, strikingly handsome face and mouth-watering massive body?
My female hormones started to stir within me and my pulse raced even more.
His dark eyes were intense, his face impassive and he was gazing straight at me.
