LEILANI
There was a sudden commotion right behind me. Neil was somewhere else with his father as the party was in full swing, music booming and people dancing, laughing, and socializing. I was engaged in a conversation with a woman who was interested in DELEILAH. But that conversation was rudely cut off by the sudden whispers, gasps, and sighs that erupted behind me.
“Oh. My. God!”
“Who in the world is that?”
“Shit. Forgive my language but that looks fucking sexy.”
“He looks kind of familiar.”
“I think I just found the man of my dreams…”
“Isn't that Dominick's second son?”
At the last whisper, my eyes shot wide open and I whirled around so fast on my heels that I nearly lost my balance. My heart had started to race as my breath quickened. And then was when I saw the source of all this commotion. The person who had attracted the attention of nearly all the guests.
He was standing by the entrance, tall and broad in a trim black suit that accentuated his toned body and long, strong fit-for-stallion legs. He had a dark blue tie and golden pocket square in his suit jacket and the silver studs in his ears glinted under the lights.
Adonis.
I had never seen him in a suit. He was extremely gorgeous.
He said he wasn’t coming.
His eyes scanned the crowd and came to rest on me. His dark eyes arrested mine in a searing gaze that made my skin heat up in response. Oh. My. God. He. Looks. So. So. So. Good.
Those beautiful, intense dark eyes of his raked down my body and an eyebrow slowly raised. My soul thumped. Why was he staring at me like that? Shit! don’t tell me this dress looks ugly and everyone has been lying to me all evening…
“Adonis!” Someone cried out and a golden blur burst through and I saw Cora right in front of him, I could not see her face from where I stood, but her voice gave it all away.
She sounded so happy, happiness near tears as she wrapped her arms around him in a loving and excited embrace. Adonis’ looked conflicted as he looked down at his mother hugging him and for a horrifying second, I thought he was going to pry her hands off, turn around and leave, but his face softened and he put his arms around her, leaning down to hug her back.
I felt my heart swell.
For some reason, a couple of guests began to cheer and soon everyone around me was clapping and grinning, turning the entire scene into something unnecessarily emotional. I found myself stifling a laugh. A laugh of relief and…happiness?
“Who do we have here?” A male voice exclaimed over the music. It was Mr. Giles, walking towards them with a huge grin on his face. Neil appeared too and he came to stand beside me, wrapping an arm around my waist comfortably.
Cora pulled away from Adonis as Mr. Giles patted him warmly on the shoulder. “It’s so good for you to make my night better by coming over, son.”
Cora put a hand to her chest. “Darling, I thought you wouldn’t show up. I was so scared but my happiness is immeasurable right now. Thank you so much for making me so much happier tonight, Adonis.”
Two women at my side exchanged looks, probably wondering why they were thanking their own son for coming to his dad’s dinner party. What they did not know was that it was more complicated than that.
“It’s no big deal. Stop making a fuss.” He finally said in his sexy deep voice that made my toes curl in my shoes. I think a couple of young women around here blushed at the sound of his voice. But his tone sounded flat.
Like he was already tired of being here.
Dominick laughed like Adonis just told the best joke in the world and Cora joined in, saying something along the lines of …he’s still the same…
Neil scoffed and muttered. “What a natural jerk.”
I elbowed him. “What did you bribe him with to make him show up?”
Neil arched an eyebrow. “You think that egoistical motherfucker would accept anything from me?”
Elizabeth, the host's voice rang over the music as she said something that made the guests clap, and the small group watching Adonis and his parents dispersed and mixed in again with the party. Although I saw some women giving him lingering stares. I was sure that once he was free from Cora, women of all ages would be all over him.
Cora hitched her arm around his and led him deeper into the party, her mouth moving excitedly as she blabbed on, her eyes bright with joy.
He listened to what she was saying with half of his attention, while the other half fell back on me again. Butterflies. The goddamn butterflies filled my belly as my face heated. But his gaze on me did not last long because his eyes shifted to Neil beside me. They both stared blankly at each other before Cora pulled him out of sight.
Adonis had sounded so final when he said he was not going to attend the event. But here he was now.
Why?
“I could not believe it when I heard you bagged a contract with that company! That’s by far the biggest you’ve ever worked with across the globe!” Dominick exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with pride. “That is the most impressive feat I have ever come across. I’m proud of you, Ace, my boy.”
We were seated at our table, with delicious delicacies spread out on the golden table for six. The music was at full rhythm, some guests were gliding and dancing around on the marble floor, many guests were seated, dining, and wining at their tables while a few hung around, champagne in hand as they listened to the current entertainer in front.
Cora eagerly chimed in. “Let’s not forget all those huge houses and landed properties he bought all over the place recently!” She gave Adonis a look. “Honey, I don’t know why you keep things so secretive, you don’t have to keep all this amazing news away from us.”
“I’m private,” Adonis said.
“Bullshit!” Dominick exclaimed. “I know you travel a lot, but family is family, son. It’s almost like we don’t know you anymore because we barely see or hear from you! Personally, I’m proud to see my sons so young yet so independent and wealthy! I’ll be honest, when I was your age, I was still confused in life!”
“That’s not true, Dom.” Cora laughed.
Laughter erupted through our table. Everyone laughed, well except Adonis and Neil's mother. I was not glad to have her sit at our table, and honestly neither did the rest of us but she had made Neil promise to let the night go smoothly for her.
“What are you doing?” Cora had asked when we were taking our seats only to see Ms. Declan also approaching our table. Her eyebrows were drawn.
Ms. Declan gave a smile. “I’m taking a seat, obviously.”
“This table is for the Giles’ family, Freya. I suggest you give yourself some respect and go sit somewhere else.” Cora said calmly.
Ms. Declan simply slid into a chair and sipped her champagne, her dainty fingers holding the glass in a fragile, delicate-looking grip.
That was when Mr. Giles got to the table with his two gorgeous sons. His eyes were enraged as he saw Neil’s mother blatantly trying to provoke Cora. He clenched his fists, trying hard to put a rein on his temper.
“What is she doing at my table?” He gritted out. Then looked at Cora. “You should have let the security escort her out the moment she arrived here.”
Neil spoke up. “Dad, it was me-”
“No. Whatever this woman does is not your fault.” He then looked Freya squarely in the face. “I’m only letting you in my event because of Neil, my wife, and guests. But this table is for my family. Leave.”
Ms. Declan, who had been silent this whole time, slowly placed her flute of champagne on the golden table and then even more slowly, raised her eyes to meet Dominick’s glare. Her blue eyes were deathly cold and calm. Her black lashes fanned her cheekbones as she blinked.
Then her purple lips parted. “I will sit where my son sits.”
Cora scoffed. “Who says you have a choice? Get up this instant or you’ll be thrown out.”
“Cora.” Neil bit out, his eyes heavy. “Stop.”
Even though there had been/ was a rift in the family and between Neil and his mother, he still cared for her, because despite everything, his mother was still his mother.
“Will you stop me from being with my son, Dominick?” Freya asked silkily, dubiously. “If you want me to leave your table, Neil should come with me too.”
Dominick let out a murderous glare. “It’s up to you, Neil, to decide.”
Neil had decided to let her sit by him right here on what was supposed to be the family table.
“And look at Neil too.” Dominick resumed after the laughter died down. “He’s the manager of a huge construction company and he’s bought a whole lot of properties that made my jaw drop!”
Neil chuckled.
“Oh, you should see the surprise Jeep Adonis had sent me last month. It is so beautiful, one of the security told me it’s the latest model and most expensive of its kind.”
“You mean the type of Jeep I rode in with my entourage?” Ms. Freya said, eating daintily.
“Why would anyone copy someone else’s life to the extent of buying the same vehicle as her? Freya? You jealous?” Adonis spoke up without even sparing her a glance.
“Is that true? You copied her car?” Neil asked.
There was silence for a moment before Freya said, quietly but firmly. “I bought the most expensive vehicle on sale. And it turned out to be the same as hers.” Her hand moved a fork. “Don’t you worry, Neil, I’m getting rid of it as soon as possible.”
The air over the table was hostile despite the party all around us, but I was not listening to the words and indirect jabs being thrown about as shimmering cutlery hit the dishes.
Instead, I was focused on Adonis who was sitting right on the chair to my left with Neil seated on the chair to my right. He was so close, I could smell his unique masculine scent, I found to feel the warmth he exuded, I could feel the static energy of pure make testosterone permeating the air him.
The way I sat parted my high as fuck double slits on my long draping and seductive dress to reveal my naked thighs and legs. The front part of the dress fell between my thighs, with the slit hitching up in my sitting position to my hip and if anyone looked down, they could see that there was no string of panties on my hips.
They would see that I was not wearing panties beneath my dinner dress. And Adonis saw that.
With bated breath, I watch his hand slid down from the table to fist on his own thigh, like he was trying to resist. I had been long aroused ever since he stepped into the mansion looking like that, sexy gorgeous, and massive as sin, and right now, with him sitting so close, I wanted something from him.
I wanted his touch. I wanted his hand to grab my naked thigh and run his fingers up to my bare groin and then slowly…tantalizingly slip under the draping fabric of my dress.
I was still indulging in my sexual fantasy, tuning out the people at the table and pretending to be daintily engrossed with my food.
His hand unclenched on his thigh and my eyes followed it. Yes, please touch me. I don’t care who’s in front of us.
As if he heard my silent plea, his hand slowly crept on my naked thigh, hot and arousing…then he grabbed the soft flesh and squeezed in a hard grip.
