ADONIS.
I had just gotten to the unlucky punching bag when I heard footsteps hurrying after me. I closed my eyes briefly. They fucking followed me.
“Adonis! Why are you so fucking grumpy today?” I heard Jade exclaim as she appeared right in front of me, her thin eyebrows raised and arms crossed under her breasts.
Cole appeared soon after, giving me a playful punch on the shoulder. “When a man’s sexually frustrated, it’s always like that.” The shit-eating grin on his face made it obvious he really enjoyed trying to rile me up.
My eyes moved to nail him down, nearly incinerating him on the cold spot. “I’m not sexually frustrated.”
“Back off, Cole.” Jade gave him a backward slap on the chest and frowned at him. Then she moved closer to me, her frown vanishing as an excited smile suddenly formed on her lips. “Guess what?”
“You finally completed the architectural layout of prototype two? The one I asked you to help me with?” I arched an eyebrow at her. She had been a great help to me and Neil’s project. She was better at building construction-related shit than I was, so she helped me help Neil.
Cole sniggered. Jade’s face fell. “No. It’s not work-related for fuck's sake.” She raised her hands in exasperation. “Spence and Tim are always getting on my fucking nerves with their bullshit. I thought you and Cole were the cool ones? Why the fuck are you talking about work outside work? Not you too!”
“Calm down, tigress. You don’t want to hurt him now, do you?” Cole said gently to Jade. Then his eyebrows furrowed as he looked back at something behind me. “As a matter of fact, Jade, I think you should just do the male population a favor and get rid of Adonis for us? Look at all those sexy women staring at him and him alone. It’s like I’m invisible.”
“You’re just painful to look at,” I said in a flat tone.
His eyes widened at my words and from the expression on his face, I could tell he was about to launch into another long-ass speech about how many weights he could lift and how women have told him multiple times that he was the most attractive man they’ve seen. Those women probably told him that for his cash and not because they meant it.
For a pretty smart, confident, and social womanizer and motherfucker like Cole, I noticed he had many insecurities. Especially about his physical appearance, when, to be honest, I couldn’t see anything wrong with him physically.
There were definitely a lot of things wrong with him mentally. That motherfucker.
“Adonis!” Jade glared at me and patted Cole’s shoulder before he could say anything. “As unattractive as the both of you are, Cole is definitely not ugly. All the women sending disgusting nudes to him can attest to the fact.” She could not hide the grimace on her face.
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” He frowned at her.
I let out a deep exhale. If I let these two partners in crime keep talking, we’d be here forever without getting to the fucking point of anything.
“What did you want to tell me, Jade?” I asked, impatiently.
“Oh. Yes.” She brightened, smiling up at me. “I made us a special lunch arrangement in my hotel suite. I met this chef at the hotel and he helped me put it all together, but I made a couple of delicious and special side dishes all by myself.”
“You cook?”
She smirked. “The bedroom isn’t the only place I work my magic.” She fluttered her eyelashes at me.
I let out a chuckle. Then gave her a teasing smile. “Are you asking me out on a date, Jade?” My voice was low, intentional.
“Cole will be there too, you cocky fucker.” She scoffed at me, lips curled in displeasure. I really did not peg Jade as someone who liked to cook. There must be a reason behind the entire lunch thing. And they weren’t telling me.
I looked at Cole. He shrugged back at me. “If there’s time I can whip out some masterpiece in the kitchen. I’m a great cook too, you know. A man of many talents.” An irritating wink followed his words.
“Fuck no. I’m never eating anything you make.” Jade snapped, eyeing him down.
I nodded in agreement. “He might fucking put weed in the food. I don’t trust you, motherfucker.” It was quick, but I saw him and Jade exchange odd glances. Like they were fucking hiding something.
Were they setting me up or something?
Cole laughed at my words, swatting at the air in front of him. “You’ve got trust issues, Adonis,” Jade smirked up at me, her green eyes twinkling mischievously.
I do have trust issues.
Turns out I was right to do so.
