ADONIS.
I stepped away from the cop and stormed towards Cora instead. She was being pulled back to sit in the back of a paramedic van, a plump woman in scrubs gently speaking to her. My eyes narrowed. Was she fucking hurt?
She looked up at me as I stepped in front of them, blocking the late afternoon sun with my body, my shadow falling over them. Relief washed over her features, but then a small frown appeared. “What did you intend to do to Freya? I know you hate her and honestly, I dislike her very much too, but I have never seen you act out like that before.”
To be honest, I had no control over the rage that pushed me towards Freya, it was like a sudden high pumped up my boiling blood to overdrive and I just saw… red. But I do not regret a fucking thing.
“She deserves every fucking consequence that comes with messing with me,” I said in a deadly tone.
Cora sighed. “The police will take care of- ah!” She gasped, jerking in pain as the paramedic paused with whatever she had been doing on Cora’s arm. That was when I noticed it.
An ugly dark bruise marred the skin of Cora's right forearm, close to her elbow. It looked swollen and so bad, that I immediately knew it must be the result of something extremely hard and heavy.
I stared back at her. “Did Freya do this to you?” I was trying to keep my voice controlled, but even the devil knew that I was one thread away from exploding in nuclear rage.
“Adonis, I’m alright, really…” She said hurriedly. “It’s just a little bruise that would fade soon.”
“Little?” I growled. Then gave the paramedic a look. “What the fuck happened?”
She blinked. “Well, she was hit by some high-density iron rod pulled out from the wrecked vehicle over there. Though the strike actually targeted her head, she was able to block it with her forearm.” The woman gently turned Cora’s forearm to show me more of the ghastly discolored bruise.
“Thankfully, the blow was cushioned by the flesh, and that explains why the bruise looks this bad. If it had directly hit a bone with the full magnitude of its hardness, force, and heavy speed, that could have caused brutal fracture injuries. But she’ll be fine.”
My jaw clenched. This was fucking serious. “Why didn’t you call me earlier?”
“Because she thought you would ignore her calls.” I heard Dom say as he stepped closer to stand beside where Cora sat. “It’s not like you haven’t done it before, son. She was scared that you wouldn’t show up, but later, she did call you, and you ignored the first ring, only picked when she called a second time.
“It seems you’re a little too busy for family, right, Ace?” He crossed his arms. “And what the hell was that you were trying to do, son? Beat up a woman?”
That overpowering rage was tingling in my muscles again. “Instead of venting out your fucking frustrations on me, why don’t you fucking stop being a motherfucking coward and put that old bitch in her place?”
My burning stare intensified. “She fucking stalked your wife and attacked her with a fucking iron rod. Cora could have been in a coma right now and here you fucking are blaming shit on me.”
Cora gasped. “Adonis! That’s your father!”
I shifted my dark gaze to rest on her, fists clenched and voice low. “He is not my father!”
Hurt washed over Dominick’s face as Cora gasped, getting up on her feet, eyes wide with shock. That tingling increased inside me and my fists clenched harder. All of this anger and violence was driving me fucking insane. I needed to get the fuck away from all of them before I murdered someone.
My eyes drifted to Freya standing in the distance. She was like a fucking bug and I could just crush her. They were all fucking bugs that needed to be crushed.
Clang!
The unpleasant sound of steel hitting steel suddenly echoed loudly through the driveway and I turned to see the police van wide open, and the goons jumped out, scattering in different directions and pushing anyone who stood in the way.
The small crowd in the driveway screamed as chaos broke out in just a second. The cops scattered too, chasing any of Freya’s goons they sighted among the panicking people running about. The security personnel were yelling, trying to get people to stay calm and direct them to safety. I even heard Freya’s loud laughter in the pandemonium.
Fucking bitch.
The paramedic pulled Cora deeper into their van, claiming it was not safe. Almost at the same time, someone barreled blindly into Dominick, pushing him off-balance and to the floor. The person staggered forward, trying to keep on running like a bat out of hell but I grabbed his shirt and yanked him back.
The shirt ripped as the person twisted out of my grip, turning to face me with a roughened face and wild eyes.
It was one of the fucking goons.
“Bro, I don’t want no problems.” The goon panted, arms raised as he backed away, his stance showing that he was about to make a run for it.
“You were better off with the cops,” I said darkly. And let my bloodthirsty fist fly. It hit him square on the nose and I felt the satisfying crunch beneath my knuckles. He grunted as he staggered back, dark red liquid streaking down to his lips. I followed him, eager to knock a couple of his body parts lose some more. Maybe a few teeth, or ribs.
