The night was heavy with booze and bad decisions. Mingyu and Wonwoo sat in their usual corner at a dimly lit bar, surrounded by loud laughter and clinking glasses. Mingyu, as always, was the center of attention. Girls gravitated toward him like moths to a flame, their giggles and fluttering lashes feeding his ego.
Wonwoo, on the other hand, sat nursing his drink, pretending not to notice the ache in his chest. It was an ache he had long learned to live with. A dull, constant throb born out of years of unspoken feelings.
He'd been Mingyu's best friend since childhood, the steady presence through every heartbreak, every mistake, and every drunken confession Mingyu ever made. But lately, the role of the "best friend" was starting to wear thin. He was tired of watching Mingyu charm his way into someone else's heart, only to walk away unscathed.
And tonight, Wonwoo had enough.
"Wonwoo!" Mingyu slurred, grinning widely as he stumbled back to their table. He plopped down beside Wonwoo, his scent, cologne mixed with the faint tang of alcohol, filling the air. "You're too quiet again. You need to loosen up! Why don't you ever talk to anyone, huh? There's a cute girl over there who-"
"Stop it," Wonwoo snapped, his voice sharper than he intended.
Mingyu blinked, startled. "Whoa. What's wrong with you?"
Wonwoo laughed bitterly, shaking his head. The alcohol in his system burned hotter now, emboldening him in ways he would regret come morning. "What's wrong with me? Mingyu, I'm tired. Tired of this."
"This?" Mingyu asked, his brows furrowing. "What do you mean 'this'?"
"This! watching you collect girls like trophies, treating love like it's some kind of game," Wonwoo spat. His voice trembled, raw and unguarded. "Don't you get it? You're hurting people, Mingyu. And you're hurting me."
The words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. Mingyu stared at him, confusion etched into his features.
"Hurting you?" he echoed, his voice soft, almost disbelieving.
Wonwoo let out a shaky breath, running a hand through his hair. "You don't see it, do you? You're my best friend, Mingyu. You're supposed to know me better than anyone else. But you're so busy being... you that you don't even notice."
Mingyu leaned closer, his face serious for once. "Notice what?"
Wonwoo's chest felt like it was caving in. The words were right there, lodged in his throat. He could feel them threatening to spill over, to ruin everything. And yet, the alcohol pushed him forward.
"That I love you," Wonwoo whispered.
The silence was deafening. Mingyu's eyes widened, his lips parting in shock. Wonwoo's heart raced, the weight of his confession hanging heavily between them.
"Mingyu," Wonwoo continued, his voice trembling, "I know you don't feel the same way. I know I'll never be like one of your girls, or even one of your flings. But... if you ever get lonely, or desperate, or... if you just need someone..."
He laughed bitterly, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes. "I'll be like one of your girls. Or your homies. Whatever you want, I'll do it. Just-just call me. Say the word, and I'll be there."
Mingyu didn't respond. His expression was unreadable, his silence louder than any words he could have spoken. Wonwoo felt his resolve crumble, shame flooding him in waves.
"Forget it," Wonwoo muttered, standing abruptly. "I shouldn't have said anything. Just forget I-"
Mingyu grabbed his wrist.
"Wait," Mingyu said, his voice low and uneven. He stood, swaying slightly from the alcohol, and before Wonwoo could protest, Mingyu pulled him closer. Their faces were inches apart, their breaths mingling.
"You're serious," Mingyu murmured, his eyes searching Wonwoo's.
"I-"Before Wonwoo could finish, Mingyu kissed him.
The kiss was messy, desperate, and tasted of whiskey and regret. Wonwoo froze, his mind struggling to process what was happening. But then Mingyu's hands slid around his waist, pulling him closer, and Wonwoo melted.
The world blurred around them as they stumbled out of the bar, Mingyu's arm slung around Wonwoo's shoulders. They barely made it to Mingyu's apartment, their kisses growing hungrier, sloppier, as they fumbled with keys and buttons and zippers.
By the time they reached Mingyu's bedroom, there was no turning back.
