The next time I laid eyes on Jasper was the day I married Hextor.
As my bridal car rolled toward the chapel, a few familiar faces flashed past the window. Jasper, Finn, and Griffin looked rougher around the edges than before, but they still carried that same cold arrogance. Doria clung to Jasper's pant leg, pleading desperately—but he ignored her. When she turned to Finn, he wouldn't even look at her.
Even Griffin, who'd always indulged her the most, shoved her away in disgust.
Tears streamed down Doria's face as she tried her usual pitiful act, but for once, none of them fell for it.
At first, I didn't recognize them—until Jasper turned and stared blankly in my direction.
Our eyes locked for just a second before I coldly looked away, not giving him another thought.
After our engagement, Dad had offered the three of them a generous payout. They'd refused, claiming they'd repay him for "raising them all these years."
I almost laughed. Over the years, they'd drained the Montclairs of millions. What exactly did they plan to repay him with now?
As the million-dollar fireworks faded, Hextor took my hand and led me down the red carpet. The crowd erupted in cheers. Then, someone slipped me an unsigned letter.
One glance at the handwriting told me who it was from.
Without a flicker of emotion, I let it drop to the ground, watching as guests trampled it underfoot.
Hextor watched me the whole time, a faint smile playing on his lips. As the ceremony wrapped up, he slid a document in front of me:
"I voluntarily transfer all assets under my name to my wife, without reservation or regret."
The crowd gasped. Even I froze in shock.
Hextor's smile stayed soft. "Don't you want to marry me?"
I could only nod, speechless.
Gently, he guided my hand to sign my name.
"I swear," he said, "I will hold nothing back from the woman I'll spend my life with."
Everyone knew he meant it.
After the wedding, Hextor proved—very thoroughly—that making babies didn't require any medical intervention.
Within three years, we had two children—a boy and a girl.
Worried about the pain I'd gone through during childbirth, Hextor got a vasectomy without hesitation.
Later, Dad mentioned Jasper and the others had crashed and burned in their business venture, losing everything before fleeing overseas.
As for Doria? She'd been shipped back to her rural hometown, married off to some local guy for a dowry. Rumor had it her marriage was a disaster.
I listened, completely indifferent.
But when I saw Hextor walking toward me, our children's tiny hands in his, my face lit up with real joy.
This man—he was my future. My forever.
