Chloe had just woken Dylan up and told him that she had accidentally seen him being kidnapped, followed the kidnappers, outwitted them, and managed to bring him here to hide.
Dylan was deeply moved but hadn't had the chance to say anything when Olivia arrived.
Chloe was furious and frustrated.
Olivia's face showed suspicion. "I saw Dylan being kidnapped and followed the car all the way here. I didn't see any other cars following me. How did you end up here?"
Before Chloe could respond, Dylan, with a stern expression and a face full of disgust, said, "You really never change. Every time Chloe does something good, you shamelessly try to steal her credit."
Olivia looked puzzled. "What do you mean by that?"
Dylan replied coldly, "The exact words you just used are the same as what Chloe said. Chloe also claimed that she saw me being kidnapped, followed the car here, and outwitted the kidnappers to save me. Explain why your story matches Chloe's word for word?"
Olivia was silent, taken aback that Chloe had said the same thing. Moreover, Chloe had spoken first again.
People tended to believe the first version they heard, and since Dylan had already accepted Chloe's story, he was unlikely to believe Olivia now.
"I'm telling the truth. I followed the car the whole way, but I didn't see Chloe's car. I have no idea how she tracked me here," Chloe said, her voice trembling with anxiety.
After arranging for the kidnappers to act, she had come here ahead of time to pretend to rescue Dylan. She couldn't answer Olivia's question.
After a moment of thought, Chloe came up with a plan.
She looked at Olivia suspiciously and said, "You've been so disdainful of Dylan these past few months. How could you possibly care enough to chase after him when something happened? Clearly, you're lying.
"Could it be that you arranged for Dylan to be kidnapped and came here to kill him to cover up your tracks? You saw me here, so you lied and said you were here to save Dylan, right?"
Dylan's face turned cold, and his eyes blazed with anger as he looked at Olivia. "Olivia, I never expected you to be so malicious. You can't have me, so you want to kill me?"
Olivia frowned, about to explain, when suddenly several rocks tumbled down from the mountain. A rumbling sound came from the direction behind them.
Olivia turned her head and saw that a landslide had occurred where she had come from. There were also rocks rolling down this side of the mountain, and there was a risk of a landslide here as well.
Olivia said in a deep voice, "We need to leave here now. There's been a landslide over there, and the soil on this side of the mountain has been disturbed. Rocks are already falling. There's a risk of a landslide here, too. Staying here is very dangerous."
Chloe panicked at the mention of danger. In the face of life and death, all other issues seemed trivial.
Chloe immediately helped Dylan to his feet.
Dylan was weak and leaned almost all his weight on Chloe.
Chloe couldn't move with him. "Olivia, help me. I can't support him on my own."
At a time like this, Olivia didn't have time to worry about minor issues. She quickly hoisted Dylan onto her back and began walking briskly in the direction of temporary safety.
Seeing Olivia carry Dylan, Chloe immediately started running as fast as she could.
Dylan watched Chloe's retreating figure, his eyes filled with astonishment.
'Chloe claims to love me so much. Why did she leave me behind and run away?' he thought.
On the contrary, Olivia's actions surprised him. Olivia always said she didn't love him anymore, yet here she was, risking her own safety to carry him, a burden, in such a dangerous moment.
'So, Olivia still loves me, doesn't she?' he wondered.
