Olivia paid no attention to Chloe and Dylan. She watched the next items on the stage.
The auctioneer announced, "Next up is the final item of this evening's auction, a pink diamond necklace, recently unearthed from the sunken ruins of Atlantis."
He continued, "According to the person who discovered it, the area surrounding the necklace is teeming with fish and lush vegetation. The life there seems to be more vibrant than in other places, as if the gems release some energy that nourishes the surrounding ecosystem.
"Some people speculated that this pink diamond was imbued with power by the great god Poseidon, enhancing the wearer's energy field, bringing them luck.
"Pink diamonds are also symbols of love. Those in love can make vows while gazing at the pink diamond, ensuring their love will last forever and their happiness will never fade.
"Now, the auction begins with a starting price of 30 million dollars, with bid increments of 300 thousand dollars."
Pink diamonds were already incredibly rare. Even a small pink diamond ring would reach tens of millions of dollars in value.
This necklace, with its large central diamond and many smaller diamonds set around it, had an opening bid of 30 million dollars, which wasn't considered high at all.
The story might have been fabricated, but there was no doubt the diamond was real. After all, it wouldn't have been brought to the auction stage for the wealthy to bid on if it were fake.
Dylan was also intrigued by the necklace. In fact, he had heard the legend long ago that the necklace possessed some kind of supernatural power, capable of bringing good fortune.
Businessmen like him often had beliefs in such stuff, and they were naturally drawn to anything that might bring them luck. Thus, he also joined the bidding.
The price soon escalated to 300 million dollars, but Dylan stopped bidding.
For now, he still didn't control the company entirely, and his funds were limited. He couldn't afford to throw money around like this.
Seeing that, Chloe was somewhat disappointed. She longed to possess the necklace—not just because it was beautiful, but also because of its significance and uniqueness. It was rarer than most museum collections.
She thought, 'If I could get this necklace, I would be known all over the world. Every woman would envy me.'
Unfortunately, Dylan hadn't fully taken control of Novara Group yet, and he wasn't yet in a position to indulge in such extravagant spending.
The bidding continued fiercely, with the price soaring to 1.5 billion dollars. Then, the wealthiest man on the billionaire list raised the bid to 1.8 billion dollars, and the hall fell silent.
Just then, from a private box on the second floor, a bodyguard raised a bidding paddle. "2.1 billion dollars," he announced.
Everyone turned their attention to the second floor, realizing for the first time that someone was up there.
Looking up, they could only see the bodyguard standing by the railing. Behind him, a curtain hung in the private box, where a man's silhouette could vaguely be seen lounging, holding a cup—whether it was coffee or liquor, no one could tell.
The top billionaire didn't hesitate but called out, "2.2 billion dollars."
The bodyguard upstairs replied immediately, "2.4 billion dollars."
"2.7 billion dollars," the top billionaire countered, his tone firm.
"3 billion dollars," came the swift reply from the second-floor bidder, showing no hesitation at all.
The exchanges were rapid, decisive, and unrelenting.
The top billionaire, seeing the determination of the second-floor bidder, realized that this was someone with both the financial power and the resolve to secure the necklace.
He could tell from the special treatment the auction house afforded the bidder that this person was someone who couldn't be crossed.
Even though he was the wealthiest man on the list, he knew better than to offend someone from a family that held far greater power and resources than his. That bidder just didn't care to join in the ranking of the list.
Many of the world's richest people didn't make the list because their businesses were in the shadows, and they didn't want to attract attention.
No one bid again, and the mysterious person on the second floor finally won the necklace.
As the auction came to a close, the organizers invited all participants to a dinner party, where they would celebrate the conclusion of the evening's event.
Olivia, along with Dylan and Chloe, made their way to the party.
