Olivia's elated mood instantly subsided, and a hint of bitterness welled up inside her.
She stared at the ribbon entwined around her and Julian's hands for a few seconds before lifting her gaze to meet his eyes.
Julian's lips curled into an attractive smile, his eyes twinkling with joy. He radiated a sense of pleasure.
Olivia didn't want to be a spoilsport and ruin his good spirits. But she felt she had to temper his expectations, to prevent him from getting too deeply entangled in a relationship that was doomed to have no future.
She shifted her focus back to the ribbon and raised her other hand, silently attempting to untie it.
Julian quickly grasped her hand, his tone tinged with displeasure. "Why are you untying it? Do you really not want to be with me that much?"
Olivia looked up at him. "I won't marry you. We'll never be husband and wife."
Julian's eyes grew cold. "Is it because of Dylan? He's openly defying you for his mistress. He always prioritizes her over you and ignores you, yet you still can't bring yourself to leave him?"
Olivia shook her head. "It has nothing to do with him. Even if I divorced him, I wouldn't marry you. I just want to keep our current relationship. If you can accept that, we can continue."
"If not, let's end it sooner rather than later. There will be women who would be willing to marry you. Don't waste your time on me."
Julian tightened his grip on Olivia's hand, his voice deepening. "Why? Am I not good enough, or is there something else you're worried about?"
Olivia couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes, her gaze drifting into the distance. "It's not about whether you're good enough. I don't have to marry you. I just want the physical pleasure, without any emotional involvement."
Julian's breathing grew heavier with anger, and he fell silent for a long moment, his eyes darkening.
Olivia continued, "I should have made this clear when you followed me to the matrimonial home. I was thoughtless and wasted so much of your time. I'm sorry."
"Cut your losses. You deserve better," Olivia said, trying to free her hand from Julian's to untie the ribbon once more.
But Julian grabbed her hand again, pressing her against the tree and staring at her with a fierce look. "Bullshit. I'm amazing, and I deserve the best. In my eyes, you are the best, and I want only you."
Olivia's heart raced again, her face turning pale. "Can't you understand? I said I won't marry you. Even if there were no other options, I still wouldn't—"
"Got it," Julian said through gritted teeth.
"Physical pleasure is fine. Liking someone's body is still liking them. I'll go back and practice hard to make you addicted to my body. That's a victory, too. As long as you don't leave me, I'll slowly figure out how to make you fall in love with me."
Olivia was stunned for a moment. 'Why is he so stubborn?' she thought.
She couldn't understand why Julian was so fixated on her.
She wondered, 'I do look good and have a great figure, but the world is vast. There must be someone better than me.
'With Julian's good looks, there must be better girls who would fall for him. Why is he so persistent? I've been so blunt, yet he still won't give up?'
But for some reason, Olivia felt a strange sense of pleasure at being so firmly chosen. It made her happy and, strangely, a little moved to the point of tears.
