Molly’s POV
I couldn’t be upset with Gianni because Octavia was Roger’s mother. However, Gianni should be nearing thirty. As to how the two produced Roger, it remained a mystery to me.
Roger was in the shower when I reached his room, but he was bathing angrily. I went to help him.
“Look, she’s your mother, and you have to accept it, even if you can’t love her,” I tried to explain to him, but he was irrational.
“No, you are my mother. I don’t even know her, and all these years, she took all of daddy’s weekends, never caring about me and leaving me out of it. She only loves daddy,” Roger said, sounding more like an adult than a child.
I turned off the faucet when I realized he was clean enough and wrapped him in a towel.
How he was able to break down his mother’s character and understand that the woman never cared for him was exceptional but unexpected from a four-year-old.
“Roger, there must be some explanation, okay? Daddy loves you so much, so if he brought her, then she must be good for you,” I tried to encourage him, but that only seemed to upset him more. I dried his hair anyway, but he responded coldly.
“Don’t talk about her unless you want me to hate you too.”
I forced a smile and, knowing his weakness, I began to sing for him before Gianni arrived. He helped him with his pajamas, and feeling like the two needed to talk, I stood up.
“I will freshen up too, and we can all go downstairs for dinner,” I suggested. Gianni agreed. “Not a bad idea. Roger, please stay a while. I want to talk to Molly,” he said. The little boy didn’t seem to care.
“I hope that woman isn’t staying over,” he said. Gianni had a helpless look on his face. “Let’s talk about that after dinner. I will freshen up too.”
Upon reaching our room, I was taken aback to see the maid removing my belongings from the closet. "What are you doing?" I inquired, feeling my anger flare up.
There were delicate dresses I had ordered specifically for public appearances, and I did not want her handling them.
The maid explained, "Don instructed me to move your things and replace them with the new madam's." I felt a wave of shock wash over me as I turned to face Gianni, who spoke before I could react.
"Excuse me?" Gianni questioned, causing the maid to become flustered. "Don, the madam downstairs said..."
"How could you? Do you take orders from me or her?" Gianni demanded, causing tears to well up in the maid's eyes.
"You are fired. Leave."
"No," the maid pleaded, dropping to her knees. "I'm so sorry, Don. I informed her that I wanted to confirm, and she said you instructed her to inform me." I sensed that Octavia was behind this scheme, and I couldn't let the maid take the blame for it, knowing she relied on her income.
"It's best to verify the truth with Octavia before taking action," I suggested to Gianni, trying to diffuse the situation.
"Arrange my wife's clothes back in the closet before I return, and take the trash with you," Gianni instructed, referring to the luggage I assumed belonged to Nicole. The mention of me being his wife caught me off guard.
Even the maid seemed surprised, but Gianni had already left for downstairs so I followed suit. Turning to Octavia, I asked, "What did you tell the maid?"
"I'm not sure what you're referring to," Octavia feigned innocence. I pointed out, "Your luggage is in our room, so the maid couldn't have mistakenly sent it there."
The implication of my words was not lost on Octavia, who shot me a hostile look before softening her gaze when it locked with Gianni’s. It was evident she was scheming something, given her reaction.
"It must have been a misunderstanding if she mistook me for the madam, but I apologize for any confusion," Octavia smoothly deflected. I smiled at her, recognizing her manipulative tactics.
Octavia's actions had nearly caused a rift between Gianni and me and almost led to the maid's dismissal. I decided to handle the situation in my own way, knowing that her presence was a catalyst for trouble.
“Don't worry, the misunderstanding has been cleared up, and the maid is taking out the trash," I reassured. She noticed the maid carrying her luggage downstairs, and her jaw clenched. It was time for me to assert my authority.
"I suggest Gianni buys you a house, or you can live in one of the rooms downstairs. The upstairs rooms are already occupied," I stated firmly, feeling the need to set boundaries, considering Octavia was Roger's mother.
I didn't mind if Gianni bought her another house, but I was determined not to let her disrupt the peace we enjoyed in this house.
The color drained from the Octavia's face as she looked at Gianni. "Vanni, did you hear what she said? She's trying to keep me from my son. Please, it's just a misunderstanding," she pleaded innocently. I turned to Gianni and asked, "What do you say?"
Before Gianni could respond, a soft but firm voice echoed from the top of the stairs. "Kick her out, daddy. She's not welcome."
