Octavia’s POV
Molly, the bitch took everything from me. How could I have known she would come into the picture? If I had known, I would have tried harder to win Vanni over, but now she has won Roger as well.
Even though my son knew Vanni wasn't his biological father, he still clung to him. Together with Molly, they looked like a perfect family, the family that was meant to be mine.
I blamed myself. If only I had cared for Roger and made him happy, maybe Vanni would have fallen in love with me. I always thought men didn't like women with attachments, but I was wrong.
Vanni had changed completely from the last time I saw him at home and not even memories of Gael could make him accept my demands.
"Octavia, I didn't ask Gael to take the bullet for me. We weren't even close. It saddens me that he died because of it, but I won't let you manipulate me. If someone else had sabotaged Molly like you did, she would be dead. Be grateful you're still alive."
Tears welled in my eyes, but I held them back. They no longer moved him.
Mom was right. He killed Nicole because of Molly, and Gael was the only reason I was still standing.
Vanni turned to the bodyguard and gave harsher instructions than before.
"Keep her away from this house and my office until further notice." Did I lose the job opportunity too?
How could I take legal action to reclaim my son now? I was afraid to speak, fearing more punishment.
"Octavia, you still have your bodyguards. If you need anything, communicate through them."
"No," I couldn't bear it. He was cutting me off completely. I didn't expect him to look pained, realizing he didn't expect me to react this way. I never expected him to fall in love with anyone else but me.
When Vanni left with Molly and Roger, I declined the new bodyguards and stuck with my old ones. I instructed them to take me to his mother, Beatrix.
She was surprised to see me without prior notice, but my heart was heavy with heartbreak as I embraced her.
"Mom, Vanni cut ties with me because of Molly."
Instead of consoling me, she pushed me away with pain in her eyes. "He did what?"
"Mom, please let me sit. I need vodka," I said in a despondent tone as I sank into the sofa. She pulled me up with one arm and slapped me hard with the other arm on the cheek.
Tears I had held back began to flow as I looked at her. "Mom?"
Disappointment filled her voice. "How could you fail so quickly? I told you to be discreet."
"You have no idea how it feels to see your son call another woman his mother and hear their moans during their love making," I tried to explain, leaving her shocked.
"Lovemaking? No woman can satisfy him. I even spoke with his whore, Eleonor, and she mentioned that it takes multiple women to please him. The plan was to ensure he doesn't father another heir to the Dawson fortune," she muttered, making it hard for me to keep up.
"Mom, what are you talking about?"
She pulled me back to the chair forcefully and began to reveal more. "You were my last hope. We achieved our goal from the accident, which was to prevent Gio from having a child of his own. Octavia, even Don Black failed, so how could you too? You were my only hope."
Her words left me reeling, and I knew there were more revelations to come. “You probably thought I hated you at first, but I didn't. It was all part of my plan to prevent Gio from suspecting that you are working with me."
Her words made me feel like she was losing her mind, and the sting of the slap was still fresh.
"If you had married Gio, you would have inherited the Dawson's group after his death," she revealed, instilling fear in me.
"Mom, Vanni is still alive, and you're already planning for his death?"
I couldn't believe his mother was plotting something so sinister. She continued, "You need to be on my side for me to explain the rules to you."
Confused by her cryptic statement, I realized that Vanni might now despise me, but I could potentially use this information to my advantage.
"Mom, you've always been like a real mother to me. Your family has taken care of me since my parents passed away, so I will always support you."
"Good, because if you ever betray me, I will personally kill you," she threatened, before adding, "Gael is still alive."
