Molly’s POV
When Gianni dropped me off at the studio after taking Roger, I was surprised to run into Christopher, my former producer. I had heard that his marriage was affected by the news, but after he betrayed me, I felt no sympathy for his troubles.
Despite his refusal to believe my side of the story and blaming me for everything, his wife still left him.
I tried to ignore him and walk past, but he grabbed my arm. "Molly, is that really you?" Before I could respond, Jace intervened, forcefully pushing Christopher away.
"If you lay a hand on her again, I'll make sure you regret," Jace threatened.
Although Jace's protective instinct was evident, I knew I could handle Christopher on my own.
He used to be someone I trusted, but things had changed. Christopher seemed confused and asked who Jace was. "Her bodyguard," Jace replied.
Christopher was surprised that I had a bodyguard now, but given the circumstances that led to my downfall, it was a necessary precaution.
"After what happened, did you expect me to go back to how I was before, without protection?" I questioned him.
Christopher seemed remorseful and apologized for not believing me. He admitted that he had thought I orchestrated everything, but his wife still left him. I scoffed at his apology, wondering if he would have apologized without Gianni's influence.
"You're only sorry because of the viral video, right?" I challenged him. "After working together for years, you should have known me better. I'm disappointed in you."
With that, I walked past him and asked Nora about the whereabouts of Daniel, my producer.
Gianni had allowed Nora to split her time between supporting me and working at the club, but once the album was launched, she would be needed full-time.
“I…” Nora started, but Christopher cut her off. “He had an emergency and asked me to take his place.”
I was taken aback. “Excuse me?” It seemed like meeting him wasn't a coincidence, and if I was left alone with Christopher, I would never record any songs.
“I suggest we wait until he recovers from his emergency. Girls, I'll let you know before the next recording session,” Christopher said, looking on the verge of tears as Nora turned to me. “Are you sure about this?”
Disappointed that she even had to ask, I replied, “You should know me better than that.”
A smile appeared on Nora's face. “Of course. I didn't think you would record with him after he switched places with Daniel.”
“Switched places?” Daniel was under contract with Gianni, and the fact that he would do something like this on his own was surprising. I wondered how Gianni would react when he found out.
“Listen, Molly, it was all my idea. I wanted to find a way to work with you, and since my project was near his daughter's school, he agreed because his wife is unwell and he needed to drop off his daughter himself.”
It made sense, but it didn't change my decision not to record with Christopher. I called Daniel, and he answered the phone immediately.
“Molly, I'm sorry for not calling you earlier, but Christopher said he would explain everything to you.”
Although he sounded sincere, I stood firm. “I have no intention of working with Christopher. Let me know when your wife is better, and we can pick up where we left off.” Without giving him a chance to respond, I signaled to the girls and left after ending the call.
As I made my way to Gianni's office, deciding to spend the rest of my day there until it was time to pick up Roger from school, Nora called.
“Molly, that was impressive. Christopher was so confident that you would be eager to work with him, but you put him in his place. I was pleased to see how remorseful he was."
"That makes me want to gag," I replied. She laughed, and after discussing a few casual things, I ended the call. As I reached Gianni's office, I was surprised to see Octavia there. They seemed intimate, or was I mistaken?
It didn't seem so, because the moment I turned around to leave, Gianni's arms were around me. I wondered how he got here so quickly.
"Molly, what's wrong? I didn’t expect to see you so soon."
Why did I feel like I was intruding? "I guess you're busy," I said, feeling jealousy clouding my thoughts. But Gianni wouldn't let go; his arm tightened around my waist.
"No, I'm not busy. Tell me what's bothering you."
Looking at Octavia, there was something different about her, so I explained, "Daniel's wife is sick, so he swapped with Christopher. I refused to work with him." Gianni looked upset.
"If he has a problem, he should have informed me instead of just swapping. I'm glad you didn't work with the jerk. Let me call Daniel," Gianni said, reaching for his phone, but I stopped him.
"No, I already handled it. So, what's going on here?" I asked, staring at Octavia. Gianni forced a smile. "She said she has something very important to tell me."
"Vanni, I can tell you first, and if you think it's okay, then you can tell Molly, but with one condition," Octavia said. I didn't want her to dictate the terms.
"What makes you think you have the right to call the shots?" I asked her, noticing a change in her demeanor.
"Well, because this information could change both your and Vanni's lives."
I hoped she wasn't going to claim her son, so I didn't want to give her too much leeway. "Let us know what it is first."
"I'll only tell you if you both promise to protect Roger, no matter what. He's innocent in all of this."
