Molly’s POV
Something didn't add up, and I could sense the tension in the air. Gianni was visibly disturbed and couldn't conceal it.
"I feel like I miscalculated. Hank isn't answering my calls, and I can't locate Roger," he lamented. We were already dressed, as Gianni was prepared for action, with his trusted bodyguards Zak and Jace by his side.
Most of the Dawson's bodyguards had mysteriously resigned, leaving only those directly employed by Gianni.
"Are you afraid?" He asked, looking at me softly in the mirror.
"With you? No."
"Even if Hank has betrayed me?" he inquired, and I hesitated, knowing Hank's strength. I had no idea what Hank did for a living, but I wasn't sure if Gianni could defeat him in a fight.
They were both formidable opponents. "Have you ever fought him before?" I asked, and he chuckled. "You think he can take me down?"
The question brought back memories of my training. Gianni seemed tougher. "Not a chance."
A smile played on his lips, but his eyes remained fixed on his phone. "She's been there for at least two hours but hasn't reached out to us."
He was referring to Octavia, and I shared his concern. "What if your mother finds out? Hank's demeanor changed after he saw the message on her phone. What if he betrayed you?"
Various thoughts raced through my mind, but Gianni remained optimistic. "You don't know Hank. He wouldn't betray me, although I sense he's keeping something from me."
"Should we proceed then?" I suggested, as we awaited a signal from Octavia. Gianni had always considered Hank his most trusted backup protector, so not hearing from him left him feeling vulnerable.
"Yes, we should, just in case she's in trouble," he replied anxiously. I knew he cared for her, but I didn't feel jealous. The boundaries had been set, and I had grown fond of Octavia.
We had developed a good rapport over the past few days. Gianni's lips met mine in a passionate kiss.
“Please remember, I have no idea what’s going on there, but only Octavia is on our team. None of them would remain alive," he cautioned after pulling away.
Due to all the evil things Beatrix had done to him, I fully agreed with him. "I'm in."
Beatrix’s mansion was splendid, and as we exited the car, Gianni gave instructions. "Zak, you are coming with us, and Jace, in case of anything, make sure you and the rest take care of everyone in view."
"We don’t know the number of people inside, so what if they are too much for us?" I asked. Gianni smiled.
"Don’t worry. I won’t let any harm come near you, and somehow, I’m glad Roger left. If not, we would have had to take him along."
I had to agree because Roger might be tough and smart, but he was also young and shouldn’t be involved in these kinds of things at his age.
"You are right."
"And I forgot to tell you. You look really beautiful in that jumpsuit." His flattering words caused my face to heat up.
"And I forgot to tell you how handsome and powerful you look." His black suit matched my black jumpsuit.
The living room of the mansion was magnificent, but most of the things were not as modern as Gianni’s. It was as if the original design and upholstery had been maintained.
However, we froze at the entrance. The bodyguards who left Gianni were all here, but why was I smelling cigar?
It was already filling my lungs before I saw Octavia tied to a chair, and I began to cough uncontrollably.
Gianni pulled me into his arms and informed his mother. "She’s allergic to smoke."
"I know," a middle-aged woman replied. I realized we had been trapped. "Then stop it. Open the windows," Gianni instructed. I felt like the air around me was getting thinner.
"Not a chance, Gio. Did you really think this was a friendly dinner?"
Oh no, I felt like I was going to die, but Gianni gave a condition. "Look, get her an oxygen mask, and I will do whatever you want."
Knowing he was one to keep his word, I wanted to stop him, but right now, words escaped me.
"I have one," one of the bodyguards said, approaching me, but the middle-aged woman stopped him. With time running out, Gianni pressed his lips against mine and breathed into my mouth. Strength was returning to my body, but he pulled away and carried me in his arms.
However, bodyguards blocked our path, and Zak was nowhere to be found. It was then I realized he hadn’t entered with us. They must have closed the door on him.
“Tie him up,” the middle-aged woman, who I guessed to be Beatrix, spoke up. Gianni didn’t fight it because I needed the mask.
As soon as he was tied to a chair, the bodyguard covered my nose with the mask before Beatrix allowed ventilation into the room.
“Welcome, son,” Beatrix said with a smile. Gianni was fuming, but the next moment Hank descended the stairs with Roger.
“Hank, what are you doing here?” Gianni questioned. Looking at Roger, he wasn’t excited to see us. Walking to the man beside Beatrix, he smiled.
“Daddy, you got them, but I don’t want to watch.” I guess that was Gael, Beatrix’s son and Roger’s biological father.
“Roger, I am your daddy, not him,” Gianni corrected, but Roger only glared at him. “No. The DNA test proves he’s my daddy, and Uncle Hank said I should trust Daddy Gael.”
Gianni must be disappointed, but my heart was sinking. “Roger, you know how much Gianni loves you.”
He shrugged. “I don’t care.”
“Hank, is this some kind of a joke?” Gianni asked Hank. He smiled and walked to me. “All I want is Molly.”
“You fucken son of a bitch.” I jumped and punched him in the face. He staggered but didn’t fall. “You’ve improved very well,” he acknowledged before instructing Roger. “Tie her up.”
“What?”
Gianni was about to retaliate, but Hank was already by his side, pressing a knife to his throat. “Don’t try to be a hero, Gio.” He stared at Roger. “I said, tie her up.”
“How do you feel, having your best friend and the boy you call a son turn against you?” Beatrix asked sarcastically. A bodyguard pulled a chair and had me pinned on it before Roger began to tie me up.
It was only then that I realized there were sophisticated people around the dining table. My hands were pulled to the back as I felt the rope around them, but what I didn’t expect was for a sharp object to be placed in my hand.
A knife, to be precise. That sweet, little voice whispered in my ears. “Mom, don’t disappoint me.” Warmth filled my heart instantly.
