Nora’s POV
Something flickered in his eyes as he took a step back. "Never mind, it's not my business anyway." He left before I could stop him.
In the following days, I didn't hear from him, and I realized I didn't have his number to check on him. In a way, things were better this way.
Strangely, I never saw any light in Carter's room from that day onward. I was focused on channeling my energy into my business and seeking expert advice, completely forgetting to hire a bodyguard.
A week later, Molly called me. "Gianni and I are getting married, but we don't want a big wedding. We've decided to have the wedding on an island with a total of twenty guests, and of course, Hank will be there. Are you sure you want to come?"
For a moment, I wondered why Hank’s presence would stop me from going. “Hank and I aren’t enemies, Molly.”
“Okay then. We are leaving in three days, and you get to be my maid of honor.”
The news was interesting, though I didn’t expect it so soon, especially when Molly spoke about focusing on developing her parents' business. But three days later, the light in Carter’s room was on.
I was tempted to knock and check on him, but with my bags packed, I couldn’t keep Molly waiting, so I left.
“I’m glad you made it on time,” Molly said as she embraced me. I hugged her back.
“I wouldn’t miss it for anything, but why a small wedding?”
She pursed her lips and signaled. “Let’s talk inside.”
Entering the private jet, Hank was there in white shorts, a sleeveless shirt, white sunglasses, and a face cap. The rims were white, but the glasses were dark, so I couldn’t tell if he was sleeping or awake, as his head was tilted back against the head of the seat behind him.
Roger was sitting beside him, wearing almost the same attire as Hank, and I had to admit that they looked good together, more like father and son.
“Sit with Molly,” Don said as he sat on the seat in front of Hank. I was glad he gave me his seat.
“Nora, Wesley’s family is nowhere to be found, so we don’t intend to host any big event until we find them.”
Since it was for her protection, I agreed with the plan. “Safety first,” I replied. She smiled, right as the pilot announced the schedule.
“What about the company?” I asked after we had stabilized in the air. Molly shook her head. “It’s picking up, but I had to hire experts because of my busy schedule. I feel saddened that I can’t do it all by myself.”
“Well, you can afford experts, and that is the best option. What if Wesley’s family planned something sinister for you there?” I asked. She smiled.
“You are right. They sold the two mansions and eloped with the revenue.”
That money was nothing to Molly, but her fears stemmed from the fact that the revenue would only be used to plan for more evil against her.
However, I loved that everything was going to be low-key. We chatted a lot after, and halfway through, I excused myself to use the restroom. As soon as I emerged, I collided with Hank.
After a brief apology, he walked away, acting as if we weren't friends as he had suggested. I couldn't understand why he was being so petty.
The private island was the most beautiful I had ever seen. Upon arrival, there were already about ten people there, including the event planners.
However, what puzzled me was the woman who caught Molly and Don's attention. She didn't appear to be one of the planners.
"Octavia, what a pleasant surprise!" Molly greeted her with a hug, and Octavia reciprocated by hugging her and Don, who smiled warmly at her. Roger stayed close to Hank, and the woman approached them, embracing Hank.
Hank took off his sunglasses and greeted her with a smile. "What brings you here?"
Roger pulled at Hank's hand. "Uncle Hank, let's go swimming."
"I'll join too," Octavia exclaimed, quickly changing into a revealing bikini that showcased her perfect size zero figure and flawless skin.
Hank shielded Roger's eyes. "Octavia, cover up. Roger is here." She was slightly embarrassed, about to say something but then pulled her dress back on.
“Roger, do you still hate me?” Her voice was soft and angelic. Amidst my confusion, I couldn’t hear Roger’s response because Molly whispered in my ear,
“Don’t get confused. That’s Roger’s real mother.” My eyes widened. “She’s your rival?”
So, the rumors were true, and there was indeed a secret woman? How could Molly accept this?
“No. Roger isn’t Gianni’s biological son, but he’s still our son.”
The revelation increased my respect for Molly. How she was able to make Roger love her more than his real mother was something I could not understand.
“Octavia, meet Nora, my best friend,” Molly said. Octavia looked offended but stretched her hand towards me.
“I thought I was her best friend, but nice meeting you.”
Her smile was sweet as our hands met, but before I could respond, a strange man approached her from behind. Did I miss anything?" His hands wrapped around Octavia's waist, and Hank’s gaze darkened.
Could he be interested in Octavia too? Then why was he upset because I rejected him?
Octavia was all smiles as she turned and hugged the man. I must say he was good looking but there was something strange with the way he looked at me when our eyes met.
"No, darling, you missed nothing." She turned to Don. "Vanni, meet Cage, my boyfriend."
I saw Hank's fingers ball together, and he carried Roger on his shoulder. "Little man, let's go and swim." Octavia quickly rushed to his side, but I couldn't hear what they were saying.
However, what I couldn't understand was that this Cage guy made me feel strange by the way he was staring at me instead of focusing on his girlfriend with Hank.
This couldn't be worse, could it?
