Molly’s POV
I was still reeling from witnessing Gianni's actions earlier. Initially, I was afraid he might end up in jail, but the way the cops looked at him made me wonder why people were so afraid of him.
Then there was Wesley, using my money to hire spies. I felt like the few months Gianni stated to get back my assets was too long.
As he picked up the intercom, his expression changed, and I wondered what his secretary had told him.
“Tell her to wait there,” he instructed, indicating it was a woman. There was always a mysterious air about him when it came to women, including his wife, that he never shared with me.
Dropping the intercom, he locked eyes with me. “My bodyguard, Jace, will accompany you to Roger’s school and stay with you until I return.”
I felt a sense of relief at the prospect of some time alone but couldn’t shake my curiosity about the woman waiting for him.
“Okay, so when can I expect you back?” I asked, unintentionally giving the impression that there was something more between us.
“I'm sorry, I just wanted to know when you'll be home so I can explain it to Roger when I pick him up from school," I said.
His lips tightened, and for the first time, he avoided my gaze, speaking in a low voice that hinted at discomfort. "I don't know. There's a lot going on. Jace is waiting for you outside."
I sensed that something was amiss, something he didn't want to share with me, but I didn't press further. He was already keeping his promise to me, and that was enough.
As I entered the secretary's office, I noticed a woman playing on her phone with her thighs exposed.
I was certain that if I bent slightly, I could see more than I wanted to. The intercom buzzed, and Agatha instructed her to go in.
I assumed the woman was Eleonor, the one waiting for Gianni, and I couldn't fathom why she was dressed so provocatively.
The locket of her necklace rested between her partially exposed breasts as she stared at me. "I never knew Don liked the innocent ones too. She's been here for a while."
Agatha remained silent, appearing composed, as a tall man entered the secretary's office.
“Ma'am, I'm Jace, and I'll take you home," he said.
I forced a smile and followed him, unable to shake off Eleanor's words. After Jace spoke, she turned around and asked, "Aren't you that Beauty..."
However, she didn't wait for an answer as I heard Gianni's voice, though I couldn't make out his words before she went in and shut the door.
Whatever it was, I knew that Gianni was far from the man I once knew.
"Ma'am, we're here," I heard Jace's voice from afar, realizing I had dozed off. I didn't have to get out of the car as Roger opened the door and entered, his gaze dark.
"Where's dad?"
"He had important things to do at the office, so it's just the two of us today," I replied. He looked upset.
"Not again. He might not return until Monday," Roger murmured, but I heard him. The boy knew his father better than anyone else ever did.
"Your daddy is just working hard to provide you with the best life," I tried to explain, but he barked.
"Don't talk to me. He isn't here, so I don't have to pretend. I don't like you, and I know that if dad isn't coming home, then he would be with mom."
I took a deep breath and, with the bodyguard in the car, I refrained from asking more questions. I wondered why Gianni wouldn't live with his wife and son, making his life so complicated.
"Well, you've always been yourself even in your daddy's presence and mentioned in front of him that you hate me," I reminded him with a smile.
He scowled back at me. "You have no idea what I can do," he said, looking young but quite intimidating.
“You also promised to give me a month,” I reminded him, he scoffed and replied. “Don’t take seriously, any good thing I do when dad is around.”
I couldn’t help the nervousness creeping in and to maintain my sanity, I thought it right to keep silent.
Upon arriving home, Roger dashed out of the car before I could stop him, but I needed to change anyway.
After changing into comfortable clothes and knocking on Roger's door, I noticed something odd.
