                    Molly’s POV
A few minutes after returning to my office, Agatha entered with food. “Don ordered it for you.”
It was too much, so I shared some with her. As I was about to eat, I remembered Roger but was relieved that Hank would be picking him up and dropping him off at home, allowing me to focus on work full-time today.
However, I wanted to be home before Roger arrived, so I decided to take some of the food to Gianni and inform him that I was leaving.
We had agreed that I would close two hours before anyone else, but when I reached the secretary’s office, Nicole wasn’t there.
I knocked, but there was no response, so I decided to open the door. As I entered, I was hit by the scent of tobacco, and a cloud of smoke covered the scattered office. On the floor, I saw Nicole with Gianni on top of her.
The smoke filled my lungs, and I began to cough uncontrollably. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening until their lips met. So, Nicole was Gianni’s mistress? What about his wife?
I had expected many things from a man like him, but I never expected him to cheat on his wife.
“Sorry,” I managed to say through my violent coughing as I dropped the package of food on the floor. Struggling to breathe in the suffocating smoke, I added, “I just brought you food and wanted to let you know that I’m leaving.”
“Molly,” Gianni called out as he rushed to my side. His speed was unexpected from the position I had seen him.
Trying to catch my breath, I lacked the strength to push him away, my eyes stinging with tears from the smoke.
Surprisingly, I was already in Gianni’s arms, as he hurriedly carried me out of his office. My eyes teary, my breathing quickening.
Hoping for relief when he brought me to my office, I rather began to lose consciousness, his voice fading into the distance.
"Molly, please stay with me," his voice echoed faintly. "Jace, get me an oxygen mask," I barely heard before feeling a rush of air into my lungs, causing me to choke.
I realized something warm covering my mouth, opening my eyes to meet Gianni's worried gaze.
Did he kiss me? No, it was mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
"Don, we don't have any oxygen masks here," Jace said, but Gianni shook his head. "It's alright. She’s out of danger."
After my breathing stabilized, I gently pushed him away. "Thank you. I'm fine."
"Gio, the ambulance is here," Nicole's voice sounded worried, though I sensed she was feigning it. Unsure of Gianni's reaction, I couldn't be certain.
"No need for an ambulance. She's fine."
“How can you be sure? What if her liver or something is damaged? She should get checked," Nicole kept insisting, irritating me with her pretense. However, Gianni's voice resonated through the office.
"I said she's fine. Now tell the paramedics to go. Besides, if she needs medical attention, I have a private doctor who can attend to her."
As our eyes met, I caught the scorn on Nicole's face, and I couldn't help but wonder about her motives.
There was nothing romantic between Gianni and me, yet she seemed to portray us as rivals, even though she wasn't his wife.
"You should drink some water," Gianni suggested. I didn't decline but felt I didn’t have the right to discuss what I had witnessed. I accepted the glass of water he offered with gratitude.
"Thank you, I should leave now," I said, but he stopped me, guiding me back to the sofa where he had seated me earlier.
"Molly, it's not what you think."
Why should I care about his personal life? Honestly, I didn't expect that from him, but things have changed since the Gianni I used to know.
"It's not my business, but I feel sorry for your wife," I said as I pushed him away and got up from the sofa.
Sorry was written all over his face, and I noticed Nicole smirking, but Gianni pulled me back. "There are things I can't tell you, and even though I've changed, there are lines I wouldn't cross."
Something stirred inside me, as if he expected me to unravel a puzzle.
"Gio, there's no need to hide the fact that we're attracted to each other," Nicole taunted, trying to provoke me, but I remained unfazed.
I never anticipated Gianni's explosive reaction; Nicole ended up on the floor from the force of the slap he delivered.
"Say another word, and I'll break your jaw so you never speak nonsense again," Gianni threatened, his anger palpable.
Nicole's fear was evident, and I, too, felt a sense of unease around Gianni.
"I have to leave now," I announced, as Nicole slowly got up from the floor. Despite my efforts to ignore her words, I overheard her threat as I walked out the door.
"She's even closing early? Gio, you have some explaining to do to Mom. What if I report this now? She might not make it to her destination alive."
I couldn't help but stop in my tracks. Who was this woman, and why were her words so chilling?
