                    Nicole’s POV
"She's closing early? Gio, you have some explaining to do to Mom. What if I report this now? She might not make it to her destination alive," I hinted, expecting him to cut Molly’s privileges but how wrong I was.
As soon as those words left my mouth, I tried to reach for my phone, but Gio snatched it from me and shot a glare at Jace.
The bodyguard understood his silent command and discreetly left us. Gio's intense gaze made me uneasy, and I felt a surge of fear that he might harm me.
I made a move towards the door, but he grabbed me, pushing me forcefully to the ground.
I winced in pain and frustration, but Gio's words cut through me. “You seem to forget who I am. I respect my mother because of her position, but that doesn't mean she can control me. I hold forty percent of the shares in Dawson Group, in addition to the family's thirty percent.”
This revelation surprised me, as I had always assumed the Dawson family held the majority of shares and Gio’s mother being his weak spot.
It appeared that Gio had his own sources of income and investments. He elaborated further.
“The remaining investors account for the remaining thirty percent. Do you really think anyone can bring me down?”
Upon learning this, I understood the source of his confidence. No one dared to question him, even if he decided to pay Molly a million dollars per month.
"I'm sorry," I apologized as I stood up, and he glared at me. "Consider this your final warning. If you so much as do anything, and I mean anything, to upset Molly, I wouldn't hesitate to eliminate a pest like you."
His harsh words pierced my soul, and I regretted challenging him. I had already lost his trust.
"Look, Gio, I was just trying to defend you. Every woman is after you for your money and..."
"You think you're different?" He interrupted, and I swallowed the pain in my throat. If I had to deal with Molly, I needed to ensure I left no traces and used others to avoid Gio's wrath.
If I failed, not even mom would trust me with the task she assigned. "I'm truly sorry, and if you don't believe me, I'll apologize to her. I'll make her so happy that she won't want to leave."
The glint in his eyes due to my words increased my envy. Gio never cared about anyone except Octavia and Roger so when did this woman come in?
Well, my plans could be easily accomplished and might help me gain not only Gio's trust but also Molly's.
"That doesn't mean I trust you. Go change and let's go," he replied indifferently.
Oh, I remembered the dinner. Mom had tasked me with spying on Don Black for a long time.
We were fortunate to interrogate one of his men before he died, revealing that he was targeting Gio, but the motive remained unknown to all. That scoundrel didn't finish confessing before he died.
He had not only killed my best friend but also Gio's father and only brother. Unfortunately, we never discovered his identity, only had clues to work with.
I returned to my office to change and put on some makeup, pondering why Gio had chosen to bring Agatha to the dinner if I hadn’t arrived. She was clueless about its dark side.
"Are you ready?" Gio asked as he opened his office door, giving me an approving look. "Remember, not a word from you."
"What about the flirtatious men?" I inquired, hoping for a hint of concern from him.
"I'm not responsible for you. You wanted this, be grateful I agreed," he replied, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth, though I forced a smile.
Since childhood, all I wanted was for Gio to love me. Our happiest moments were spent training together. However, as we grew older, things changed, and Gio was taken away.
"By the way, no bodyguards allowed," I mentioned as we got into the car. His entourage of bodyguards was waiting in the next vehicle, as always.
“How is that possible?" he asked, looking displeased. If his bodyguards came along, how would I be profitable to him?
"That's what I was told when making the arrangement. Don Black wouldn't show his face when there are a bunch of heavily armed men around. From the looks of it, he's there to seal a deal."
I just hope the informant doesn't deceive us, but at least Gio believed me. Otherwise, he wouldn't have dismissed the bodyguards.
As soon as we reached the entrance of the restaurant, Gio received a call, and a waiter slipped a note into my hand: 'Don Black wants Molly, not you.'
My fingers tightened around the note, and I dropped it before Gio ended the call. The waiter was quick to retrieve it, but suddenly, I felt like this whole thing was a setup.
Why would Don Black want Molly? What does he even know about her? With these unanswerable questions swirling in my mind, I didn't notice when a steel ball was headed my way.
