Giovanni’s POV
To hell with the stupid aphrodisiac and my system. Coupled with my traumatic brain injury, my sexual drive was already higher than average, and all these conversations were just distractions from what I was going through.
The cold water helped a little, but being with Molly, I was feeling hot all over again.
Maybe I should just let her go, but another part of me wanted her to stay. I had never tried to fight it before like I was doing now because I was always willing to pay for it.
After the encounter with Eleanor in my office, I was determined to make some changes after skipping my latest session.
It hadn’t been easy, but my life was already messed up, and I didn’t want to make it worse.
I sensed Molly’s discomfort when I leaned in to kiss her and quickly pulled away, realizing that asking her for sex would be an insult after all she had been through. I recalled our earlier conversation and replied,
“I see. Then you should add it to your calendar. A month from now, you will accompany me to dinner after we close from the office so I will have Hank take care of Roger.”
Determined to find out what Don Black was up to, I had no choice but to take Molly. However, I would never allow anything bad to happen to her.
She had already seen a bit of my ugly side, so I didn’t think she would be upset seeing me confront Don Black if given the chance.
“Okay. I hope it’s official so I don’t get into trouble with your wife or anything,” she said. I was about to clarify the part about my marriage, but she said something else that didn’t sit well with me.
“But Gianni, I just remembered. You shouldn’t send me so much money in the future.”
I didn’t know how to explain it to her, but the fact that we had a past and I was determined to help her did not give me the right to exploit her.
Everyone who worked for me was paid, and she deserved to be paid too. “You are working, so you have to be paid.”
That was a basic principle, so I couldn’t understand why she was being difficult about it.
“No, you have done so much for me, and don’t forget that my agreement to work is due to your training me. It’s more to my benefit than yours,” she explained, and I found myself staring at her lips.
It was embarrassing, and I hoped not to make a fool of myself. The conversation was already distracting me from my erotic thoughts, so I planned to keep it going for a little while.
“Don’t worry. You still need to be paid, and because I don’t want anyone to bully you around, I’m paying from my personal account.”
I came up with that idea when Nicole was sent by my mother to join the company.
She was a spy and would report everything, so I didn’t want Molly to be in my mother’s bad books. No one knew her better than me, except maybe her late parents.
“Gianni, thanks a lot, but if you send me another cent, I will send it back to you,” she said seriously, leaving me speechless.
“You are a woman. You have needs,” I pointed out, but she was reluctant to see things from my perspective.
“I also have your black card,” she reminded me, and I felt like I was losing. Eventually, when everything settled, I could just let her keep the card.
“Alright, let’s just say it’s your salary for taking care of Roger,” I suggested, but her expression changed, and she retorted,
“No. Roger is like a son to me. I will never take a cent for taking care of him. All I want is my Company.”
Her words touched me deeply because Roger’s mother didn’t care about him. If not for me, she would have aborted him, and that was why I kept him away from her.
A woman couldn’t be forced to have a child she didn’t want, but if it happened, the man should be ready to take responsibility for everything.
Knowing Molly, I knew she wouldn’t lie to me, and her words were true, but I couldn’t understand her.
“Roger is mean to you, so why do you care about him?”
Roger had been through a lot, born to a mother who didn’t want him. I had to juggle him between work since I couldn’t trust anyone else to love him like I did, resulting in taking his childhood from him.
That turned out well because of the kind of businesses I was involved in.
“He’s just a kid, and his behavior might be related to how you brought him up. People change, and he has a lot of years ahead of him,” Molly replied, leaving me stunned.
How could she, who never had a child of her own, love another who was mean to her so unconditionally?
“It’s late. I have to go shower and rest. You should rest too,” she said, tucking me into bed like I was a child. I liked it and didn’t want her to leave just yet.
“You can sleep here if you want,” the words slipped out before I could stop them. Damn. I just messed things up.
