Wesley’s POV
Last night was brutal, and Santiago was upset after Giovanni left, venting it all on me. “This is all your fault.”
“But you came to a conclusion,” I reminded him, casting a final look at the empty restaurant from the screen I was watching from, but he stared at me as if I spoke trash.
“A conclusion? Do you know what he would do? Nobody crosses him.” Don Gio seemed like a vengeful person, but so were all the other Dons out there, so why did he make me feel as if this was all my fault?
From the looks of it, they already had the arrangement made before I made the request.
“It was clear that he was looking for your boss,” I pointed out, watching his expression change to one of fury.
“The only reason Don Black gave him an audience was because of Molly. You better find another way for us to have her so we can cancel that fucken meeting.”
There was fear in his eyes, which was understandable. Having seen the worst side of Giovanni, I was still surprised that Santiago was afraid.
Unlike me, Santiago and Don Black ruled a branch of the mafia and should be able to stand up to a single Don like Giovanni.
“You look like you are afraid,” I observed, watching his anger burn slowly.
I'm not afraid, you fucking idiot. My men are injured, and I believe it should be you in their place."
The gravity of the situation stared me in the eyes, but I was determined to bring Giovanni down.
As long as Molly was alive, there was a chance she could return to claim the company, and I couldn't let that happen.
"So, what do you want me to do?" I asked, willing to make any sacrifice for the upper hand.
"You need to find a way for us to see Molly alone," Santiago suggested, presenting another challenge.
"That's impossible. She lives with the devil," I explained, but Santiago made a valid point.
"She's your ex-wife. You must have something on her."
A memory flashed in my mind, and I grinned. "Oh, yes, I do, but I can't call her tonight."
"Alright. I'll be at your house tomorrow morning, and you have to make the call in my presence," Santiago confirmed.
True to his word, Santiago's bodyguards filled my living room the next day, and I was relieved that Kiara had already taken our son, Wade, to school.
Having informed her about Santiago's visit, I knew she wanted to avoid him, which was in our best interest.
"We don't have time. Call her," Santiago ordered. I dialed Molly's number, but it was blocked.
"She blocked my number." I never imagined it would hurt so much to be shut out of her life.
Don't you have her number memorized?" Santiago asked. I nodded. "Yes." He handed me his phone. "Call her."
It took some time before Molly answered my call, and I was upset that she had blocked me. "Molly, how could you block me?"
"Screw you, Wesley," she retorted furiously. I knew she would end the call, so I warned her, "If you hang up, I will destroy your heart bracelet."
Knowing how special it was to her, I got her attention. "Where did you find it?"
"I should thank my brother for scattering your things because it was found under the furniture when they were cleaning, and I kept it with me. If you doubt it, I can send you a screenshot. Also, what happened to your remaining clothes in my closet? I will burn them," I threatened, but she didn't sound afraid when she responded.
"Have the bracelet delivered to me, but as for the clothes, give them to your wife since she likes second-hand items like you."
She was still as confrontational as she had been since meeting her ex, Don Gio. "It doesn't work that way, Molly. If you want it, then it has to be on my terms."
"Name them," she responded seriously, making me feel like I had won. The moment I get her alone, not even Don Gio would be able to find her to take her from me.
"I want you to come alone to the location I will send you." Santiago smiled, about to send the location with another phone when the voice on the other end of the line changed.
“Wesley, I believe you're courting danger," Giovanni's voice interrupted the call, leaving me irritated. It was clear he had been listening the entire time. Even Santiago appeared displeased.
"I'll accompany Molly if you insist." The call abruptly ended, and just as I hoped Santiago and his men would support me, Santiago quickly stated, "We'll stick to the original plan."
I felt utterly helpless as I watched them exit my living room. "Wait, could you provide me with some protection?" I implored.
Santiago turned back, giving me a piercing glare, his words crushing my spirit. If only I had known.
