Molly’s POV
“I assume you haven't read this yet." He tossed the phone aside, his expression inscrutable.
The document had been sent to my email last night, but in my current state of mind, I hadn't been able to bring myself to read it.
"I'm still upset and not ready to do so, which is why I need a lawyer."
His expression was stern, but his tone was surprisingly casual as he delivered the news. "Well, Wesley no longer has any properties."
I was numb. "What? That can't be true," I protested. Was this some kind of joke? "I personally signed everything over to him."
Giovanni reached for the cigarette again, only to drop it once our eyes met, frustration evident in his gaze as he relayed the message.
"And he transferred everything into his mother's name."
"No. That's impossible." My heart raced, my legs feeling weak, but thankfully, I was seated.
My stomach churned uncomfortably, Giovanni's words echoing in my mind, his challenging gaze daring me to verify the information in my email if I doubted him.
“Does Kiara know about this?" I asked, realizing the question was pointless.
Giovanni had no connection to Wesley or Kiara. He had appeared mysteriously in my life during my lowest point.
"I have no idea, but what if I train you to reclaim everything?" Giovanni suggested, leaving me puzzled.
Singing was my only talent, but I hadn't sung in years and had no intention of doing so.
"How?" I inquired, curious about his abilities and background. His years of absence must have led to something, right?
"Firstly, it's all in your mind," he said seriously, tapping his temple with his forefinger, leaving me perplexed until he clarified, "You need to think, Molly."
"Are you calling me foolish?" I felt offended, but his facial expression turned into amusement.,
”I am not. Why haven’t you signed the divorce paper already” I answered truthfully.
"I was afraid of losing everything, so how did he manage to transfer everything to his mother?" The shock of the revelation was still sinking in.
"But you've already lost everything. Signing those papers won't change that. What's holding you back now?" Giovanni's words hit me hard, and I felt a pang of shame.
He was right. I had nothing to lose now because I had lost everything already. The company my parents worked so hard to build and all their other inheritance have been stolen by Wesley and his family. As much as I didn’t want to accept the help from my ex, the man who had abandoned me years ago, I don’t have many choices. He could be my best and only shot.
"Look, I really appreciate your help, but I can't accept your help, unless there is a way for me to pay,” I blurted out, his expression softened. “You want to pay me for kindness?”
Though it sounded strange as I would not have charged anyone for being kind to them, our relationship was complicated so I nodded. I don’t want to owe him anything, not after what I had been through these years.
“If you are going to do all this for free, I would feel guilty. Please let me do something,” I implored him. That way, I won’t feel like a free loader.
“Okay, there is one way,” he said thoughtfully, my interest piqued. “And that is?”
“There is a boy I need you to take care of if you insist on showing appreciation. You can see that as a job, and in return, I will help you regain all that you lost."
“Okay,” I didn’t have a kid myself, but I know how to take care of people. “But why don’t you hire a professional nanny?”
“He was very picky. We have had nannies for him but neither of them could stay. So I have to warn you it could be a very challenging job.”
“Yet you proposed it to me.”
“Yes, because I know you and I believe in you.”
A weird feeling welled up from my heart but I ignored it. “Can I see this bad boy’s photo?”
Reaching into his wallet, Gio pulled out a photo and handed it to me. It was a very cute boy. But seeing his eyes, my heart sank.
“Is this your son?”
